Day two of the Twin Valley Tournament is now in the rear-view mirror as the focus now shifts to the weekend games. There were eight total quarterfinal games on Monday between both the boys and girls teams.
In the 3:15 p.m. window for the girls’ tournament, four-seeded Clifton-Clyde pulled away late to get past five-seed Linn by a final score of 48-38 to make it to the championship semifinals on Thursday.
While that game was going on, three-seed Doniphan West escaped with a 50-41 win over six-seed Centralia to advance to the semifinals as well.
The boys’ tournament resumed at 4:45 p.m. with four-seed Axtell pulling away from five-seed Troy in the fourth quarter to win 53-45 to make the semifinal round.
While that was going on, six-seed Hanover pulled off the lone quarterfinal upset over three-seed Centralia by a final score of 43-40.
The stage switched back to the girls at 6:15 p.m. with top-seeded Hanover taking care of business against nine-seed Valley Heights by a final score of 49-32. Hanover will play Clifton-Clyde in the semis on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
Two-seed Frankfort was then upset by ten-seed Washington County 50-41 with the Tigers leading wire-to-wire. They will hope to keep their championship hopes alive against Doniphan West on Thursday 7:30 p.m.
In the final games of the night for the boys’ tournament, top-seed Clifton-Clyde won their first game of the tournament after getting a first-round bye as they defeated eight-seed Valley Heights 70-38. They will take on Axtell in the semis at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Ten-seed Washington County was unable to keep their Cinderella run alive as they fell to two-seed Blue Valley by a final score of 58-35. The Rams will take on Hanover in the semifinal round at 7:30 p.m.
