Oskaloosa spoiled Onaga’s home openers by sweeping the Buffaloes on the road. The girls won 51-37, and the boys won 47-31.

Onaga started with a quick 4-0 lead, but that would be followed by a 6-0 Oskaloosa run after forcing multiple turnovers in their press.

Hallie Wright made some jumpers en route to nine first-quarter points to give the Bears a 17-11 lead after the first period.

In the second quarter, the offense was scarce. Onaga wasn’t able to make their first field goal until 3:30 had gone by and Oskaloosa needed 4:30 to make their first field goal.

The Bears went on a 10-1 at the end of the half to give themselves a 27-15 lead at halftime.

Wright had another terrific quarter in the third with eight more points to help the Bears hold on to a 14-point lead going into the final quarter.

Onaga finally got their offense going in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late. The Buffaloes and the Bears each scored 14 points in the final frame to give Oskaloosa a 2-0 start to the season, a year after they won just three games all season.

Bridgett Campbell was the leading scorer for Onaga before she fouled out towards the end of the game with 15 points. Annie Force also drained three three-pointers and finished with ten points.

For Oskaloosa, Wright was the leading scorer with 25 points. Her incredible performance makes her our Player of the Game brought to you by Farmers State Bank.

MaKayla Boyd added 12 points before she exited the game with five fouls, and Lex Massalle had 11 points for the Bears.

Oskaloosa is now 2-0 just one year removed from a three-win season. As for Onaga, they fall to 0-1.

In the boys game, both teams struggled scoring in the opening quarter with Oskaloosa holding on to an 8-6 lead.

The Bears did a great job sharing the ball in the second quarter with five different players making a field goal to give them a 25-18 at the half.

The third quarter was tightly contested much like the first, with Oskaloosa outscoring Onaga 9-8 to hold on to a 34-26.

Oskaloosa blew the game wide open with lockdown defense in the fourth quarter. The Bears’ defense didn’t allow their first point until there was 2:39 remaining, and they didn’t allow their first field goal until there was 1:28 left. This helped their offense get back into a groove and let them pull away.

Jackson Kolterman led Onaga in scoring with nine points with all of his scoring coming in the middle two quarters.

Oskaloosa was led by Trenten VanHoutan, who finished with ten points. He is your Player of the Game brought to you by Farmers State Bank. The Bears had nine different scorers in the win.

The Bears even their record to 1-1 and shake off a tough loss at Valley Falls last Friday. They make their home debut on Friday against Maur Hill-Mount Academy on Friday night.

Onaga drops to 0-1, and they will have a few days off before their next game on December 11th at Washington County.
