In the girls game, it was tight all the way throughout, but a big 3rd quarter propelled ACCHS to a victory.

After a back and forth first quarter, which featured a couple three pointers from ACCHS junior McKinzee Bauerle, ACCHS took a 12-6 lead.

The second quarter was back and forth, as Jackson Heights took the lead very briefly. However, once ACCHS retook the lead, they would never relinquish it the rest of the way. Bauerle and sophomore Madison Martin willed the Tigers to a 24-17 halftime lead.

Martin continued to make an impact, as she helped the Tigers grow their lead up to as much as 12 in the 3rd quarter. When all said and done, it was a 40-29 lead, heading to the final frame for ACCHS.

The fourth quarter was keep away, as Jackson Heights never got closer than 6 points in the quarter. ACCHS would win by a final of 48-42.

Bauerle led all scores with 23 points, including four 3s. Martin was the player to bank on, as she finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks. Chesnea Cochren led Jackson Heights with 19 points, Dawson Cochren finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. ACCHS improves to 4-9 and 4-5 in league. Jackson Heights falls to 3-9 and 3-5 in league.

The boys game got off to a sloppy start, with both teams turning it over their first couple of possessions. But a 3-ball from Jackson Heights sophomore Drake Mellies got the momentum going for the Cobras. They didn't look back after that.

Mellies would hit 2 more triples in the quarter, junior Jaden Gueye would add on himself as the Cobras took a 12-2 lead into the second quarter. In that frame, the Cobras would not cool off from downtown as they pushed their lead to 25-6 at the intermission.

The 3rd quarter was all Cobras as they continued to pour it on from downtown, while forcing turnovers and getting out and running in transition. After a 26-5 quarter, the Cobras took a 51-11 lead into the final frame.

With a running clock, the benches got cleared, as Jackson Heights won by a final of 54-15. The Cobras hit 13 threes on the nights, as Mellies and Gueye each hit 5 apiece. Drake Mellies was the player to bank on as he finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. The Cobras improve to 6-6 and 6-2 in league. The Tigers fall to 0-14 and 0-10 in league play.

Next up for each team, Jackson Heights will host Oskaloosa on Monday. ACCHS girls will be at JCN Monday night. The ACCHS boys will be back in action next Friday at home against Valley Falls on 93.7 KAIR.
