The Centralia Lady Panthers remain #2 in class 1A D1 entering last night as they took on Doniphan West who moved up to #4 in class 2A. Both boys teams were unranked and hungry for a win, but Centralia Boys came out swinging.
Girls - Centralia over Doniphan West 61-39
First quarter ended 17-13 with the only two lead changes of the game occurring early and Centralia finally taking back over, as they would do so for the rest of the game. Brennah Edie and Emmyjo Whetstine would both hit threes in the first for the Mustangs but nothing would be able to stop Centralia’s sophomores in the first with seven from Josie Haverkamp and six from Hayden Kramer.
The second quarter kept the score operator bored as Centralia scored just nine points in the eight minutes and Doniphan West had zero. The half ended 26-13. An incredible defensive quarter on both ends.
It was another 17-13 quarter in the third quarter to get to the fourth quarter 43-26 in favor of the Panthers still. Oen Deters started the third with a three and had her best quarter with seven points.
The game ended 61-39 with Centralia pulling their fourth consecutive win against Doniphan West. Sophomore Josie Haverkamp finished with twenty-one points, nine boards and four steals while Oen Deters concluded with twelve points, eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals. The sophomore Hayden Kramer also had a great night for Centralia ending with sixteen points with two threes. Andi Foster led the scoring for the Mustangs with eleven.
Boys - Centralia over Doniphan West 74-46
The start to what would end to be an incredible finish of a frenzy of threes from Centralia was very close with Centralia having the lead to conclude the first just 20-19. There were three lead changes in the first quarter, and that would be the last of the game as well. Centralia hit four threes in the first with two from Jacob Flentie, one from Aiden Talley, and one from Quintin Alderfer.
Centralia sprung ahead at the half ahead 53-30 as the Panthers would out-score the Mustangs in the second 33-11. Isaac Reinecke would add two threes in the second quarter while threes would also be added in the quarter from Henry Heidenman, Alderfer again, and Flentie again.
Centralia added four more threes in the third with Duke Timmel hitting his first three of the season, Reinecke hitting another, Alderfer adding his third one of the game, and Ben Haverkamp adding his first one up of the contest. It was 71-39 going into the fourth quarter.
Centralia would only add one bucket to the final score from the fourth quarter and it be another three pointer, this time from Lawson Osterhaus.
Henry Heidenman led the scoring with sixteen points, four boards, and a steal to finish the night. Duke Timmel was a bucket shy of a double-double with eight points and twelve boards. Isaac Reinecke finished with one of his best games in his young career with twelve points and Quintin Alderfer finished with eleven. Kelby Windmeyer led the scoring for the Mustangs with twelve.
Last night Centralia also BROKE the three point record for a single game as a combined team going 14/27 from around the perimeter. Having EIGHT different players hit three pointers, with three threes coming from Jacob Flentie, Quintin Alderfer, and Isaac Reinecke. Huge applause for all these young men on shooting lights out on the court last night.
Summary
Centralia Girls are now 14-0 overall and the only undefeated team left in the league at 5-0. Lady Mustangs drop to 12-3 and 5-1 in the league but they still lead their sub-state region. Centralia Boys move up to 8-6 and 4-1 in the TVL while Mustangs fall to 4-12 on the year and 1-5 in the TVL.
