The Silver Lake boys basketball team pulled one of the biggest upsets in the State Tournament among all classifications on Thursday night.

It's the Giant Communications & JBN Telephone Company Road to Glory Presented by Giant Mobile!

(2) #3 Lakin 46, (7) Silver Lake 48

The Eagles end Lakin's 20-game winning streak with an absolute thrilling finish at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Broncs (22-2) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and forced Silver Lake to take a timeout two minutes into the game.

The Eagles bounced back after the timeout and went on a run to get within 14-10 going into the second quarter.

Defense was the story all game and more so in the second quarter as both teams scored nine points and the game went into halftime at 23-19 Lakin.

Lakin's largest lead in the game was seven and the Eagles stayed the course and ultimately took the lead for the first time midway through the fourth quarter.

Once Silver Lake took their first and only lead they would never give it back up. They continued to get stops on the defensive end as Lakin was able to get up 57 shots in the game compared to Silver Lake's 38.

After a three-point play from Lakin's Colter Oldham, the game was tied at 46 with under 20 seconds left.

Silver Lake's Dayne Johnson was a monster in the game and was fouled on a drive that put him at the line with three seconds left.

Johnson hit both free throws to give the Eagles that winning margin as Lakin would turn the ball over when they had an opportunity to tie or win it at the buzzer.

Johnson finished with 27 points and eight rebounds while hitting 11-of-15 free throw attempts. Aemon Coffman was the second leading scorer off the bench for the Eagles finishing with 10 points.

Lakin was led by 6'6 senior Nicolas Doume with 16 points and eight rebounds while 6'7 senior Austin Ritsema finished with eight points and 13 rebounds.

The Broncs outrebounded Silver Lake 35-27 but the free throw numbers were a big difference in the game.

Silver Lake finished 18-of-24 at the line while the Broncs finished just 1-for-6 at the line.

Silver Lake will join the girls squad in the semifinals on Friday night as they will play Goodland at 8 PM which will be broadcast live on 96.9 KOZA. The Silver Lake girls play Hesston in a rematch of last year's championship game which will air at 6 PM on 103.9 KNZA.
