Both Seneca Post 21 and Smith County 220 lost in the first round yesterday and were moved to the elimination side of the bracket and played at 8:00 AM this morning. Seneca managed to pull out a dominating victory over Smith County, 10-4, to move on and continue their play in the bracket.

Seneca started the scoring in the first with Evan Olberding coming through to score off of a wild pitch, just one of three times Seneca would come through and score off of one. Smith County took the lead 2-1 after the first inning, after Reed Doane and Dominick Kattenberg came through and scored.

Seneca would put a massive rally together after back-to-back outs to start the second inning and would go on to have six straight batters reach and five score. Macke reached off an HBP, while Olberding, Wurtz, and Gerety would all put down singles, followed by a huge double by Kaden Peterson. Smith County would respond with just two runs again in the bottom of the second.

Seneca held the momentum wave throughout the rest of the match and kept Smith County off the board for the final five innings. Seneca would score one more run in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth.

Seneca Post 21 ended the game with ten runs off ten hits and won by the final score of 10-4 over Smith County Post 220. The McDonald's in Hiawatha and Seneca Player of the Game went to Derek Wurtz from Seneca, having gone the seven-inning distance. Wurtz recorded four strikeouts defensively and gave up four runs on eight hits. Wurtz also scored once on offense, reaching twice off two singles, going 2-for-5.

Seneca will now play tonight at around 6:00 PM against Marysville Post 163. Marysville lost in game seven against Garnett 3-2.
