Hiawatha Post 66 fell at a dominating loss to Iola Post 15 last night in the AA American Legion Baseball State Tournament by a final score of 14-0.
In the top of the first inning, Iola struck early with four straight singles to start the game and was able to get two runs to come through as well. Hiawatha managed to get the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, all on walks, but was unable to generate any runs.
Hiawatha Post 66 managed to put together a good defensive second, but unfortely would leave two stranded on base in the second. Cooper Wischropp also recorded the only hit of the game for Hiawatha, leading off the inning with a single, but he was forced out at third.
Iola Post 15 would go on to put up three runs in the third, four in the fifth, and five in the sixth. Hiawatha was not able to respond in the bottom of the sixth, resulting in the ten after five run-rule. Ending the game 14-0 after six innings.
Hiawatha would end the game with just one hit and leave seven on base. Bradyn Newell managed to reach base twice via the walk for Hiawatha, but was left stranded both times. All but one Hiawatha player managed to get on base at least once.
The season ends 14-16 for Hiawatha Post 66 and 10-10 in the league.
