Troy hosted a non-league home triangular against two familiar league opponents in the Jackson Heights Cobras and Riverside Cyclones. The Trojans dominated both matchups, going 2-0 on the night, while Riverside took the split, only beating Jackson Heights in a close three-set game, and Jackson Heights lost both matches in heartbreaking defeat.

Troy sweeps Jackson Heights (26-24, 20-25)

Troy and Jackson Heights got out to a very close first set, with both teams making lots of mistakes with misfires into the net and beyond the boundary lines. The difference maker for the Trojans was that Jackson Heights couldn’t contain the Senior Harper Whetstine, who had nine kills and three aces against the Cobras. Anna Shierling led the Cobras in Kills with six against Troy, while the Cobras had four total blocks. Despite some small spurts in both the first and second sets, Troy would run away with their third victory over Jackson Heights this season.

Riverside overcomes Jackson Heights (25-18, 18-25, 27-25)

Riverside started strong with a set one win over Jackson Heights, taking advantage of many of the Cobras' mistakes early on as they had three service errors and many attacking errors. However, in set two, it was the total opposite, and the Cobras even cleaned their play from behind the line with Layla Cochren getting three aces for the Cobras, while five total Jackson Heights athletes had aces. Jackson Heights also managed to keep in check Kennedy Griffin and Ella Wisler in set two, but unfortunately for the Cobras, they couldn’t in set three. Griffin would finish with twelve total kills, with Wisler quickly behind with eight kills, and Kayhayhna Hewins tracking with seven kills and two blocks, all for the Cyclones

Troy defeats Riverside (25-10, 25-14)

Troy and Riverside this season, going into the match, were 1-1 and had played pretty competitively up to this point, but tonight it was a washout for the Cyclones as Troy totally dominated both sets. Seven different Trojans scored for Troy, with Whetstine leading the way with seven kills, three aces, and two blocks. The senior Alyson Grable had five kills and an ace, while the freshman Elliette Geiger had three kills, a block, and two aces.

Summary

Troy moved to 10-10 on the season while remaining 5-2 in league play, Riverside improved to 6-12 (one win over their win total last season), and Jackson Heights dropped to 9-10 on the season.

Harper Whetstine was also recognized at Troy with over 1,000 career kills and assists. Tonight she totaled 16 kills, 2 blocks, and six aces.
