The Johnson-Brock Eagles came into the Pioneer Conference Tournament as a 3-Seed, but an upset in the quarterfinals would allow them to avoid the 2nd seeded Lourdes Central Catholic and face off against Pawnee City. After beating the Indians on Tuesday, the Eagles found themselves in the Championship on Saturday afternoon in Wymore.

The test on Saturday though would be a much stiffer test than their previous two conference tournament games as the Eagles took on an EMF team that came into the Championship match 20-4. It would be a tall task for a Johnson-Brock team who, despite making the finals, came into the match at just 15-9. EMF would take the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21. Johnson-Brock was right there both sets, but just couldn’t finish it out. The Eagles though would come back to take set three 25-23.

There is no “overtime” in volleyball, but the closest thing you can get to OT is a set that goes past 25 and the Eagles and Bobcats did just that in a thrilling fourth set. However, the Bobcats would do just enough in that one to prevail over Johnson-Brock 26-24 and win the match 3-1. The Eagles will continue their season by hosting a triangular with Falls City Sacred Heart and HTRS on Tuesday.

Speaking of Falls City Sacred Heart – the Irish claimed a 3rd place finish at the Pioneer conference tournament on Saturday by beating Pawnee City 3-0 in the 3rd place match in Wymore. The Irish came into the tournament the 5th seed and looking for some more momentum to round out their season. The Irish went on an eight-game winning streak earlier this season and followed that up with a 3-6 nine game stretch. They took care of  HTRS before losing to EMF to set up their third place showdown.

The Indians were the surprise of the tournament – making the third place match as the seventh seed. They won two games last Monday night to set up their Tuesday semi-final against the aforementioned Eagles. Though they were not able to come away with a win in Tuesday’s semifinal match or Saturday’s third-place match – it was a nice showing for a team who’ll start district play next week.

The Indians regular season is over and they will continue their season next week in district play. The Irish have the previously mentioned triangular this Tuesday before starting district play next week as well.
