An epic 2025 season for Silver Lake Volleyball culminated in a 3A State Championship on Saturday in Hutchinson as the Eagles captured their 10th State Title in school history without dropping a single set at the State Tournament!

The #1 seed Eagles went 3-0 in pool play on Thursday, dispatching #8 Hesston in their first pool play match of the day in 2 sets, 25-20, 25-13.

Silver Lake was pushed to the limit in two strenuous sets versus #5 Ellsworth, but prevailed 25-23, 31-29.

In their 3rd and final pool play match on Thursday, the Eagles had to burn their two timeouts in the first set and found themselves down 21-17 in the first stanza to #4 Wichita-Trinity Academy, but Silver Lake elevated their play to rally and take the first set, 27-25 and they carried that momentum to the second set which they won 25-16.

In the semifinals on Saturday vs #2 Hoisington, Silver Lake found themselves trailing 12-9 in set one and 13-11 in set two, but once again the Eagles rose to the occasion, winning in straight sets, 25-22, 26-24.

The win over Hoisington advanced Silver Lake to their 14th State Championship match in school history as they faced a familiar foe, the 38-9 Holton Wildcats, in an ALL BIG EAST State Championship Match!

After falling to Silver Lake all 3 times during the regular season, all of which required 3 sets, the Wildcats were hoping that the 4th time would be the charm, but it wasn’t in the cards.

Set one was a back and forth affair which was tied at 21 before the Eagles scored the final 4 points to take the set, 25-21.  In set two, Holton came out firing to take an 8-4 lead, but as the Eagles have done all season, they responded with an 8-1 spurt to surge ahead at 12-9. Holton would cut the deficit to 13-12 only to see Silver Lake rattle off four straight points to take control of the set and eventually win 25-19 to take home the school’s 10th State Title!

The Lady Eagles capped off their remarkable season with a school record 46 wins with their only loss coming to 5A school Shawnee Heights on September 11th.

To prove how dominant the Eagles were in 2025, Silver Lake won their final 37 matches, didn’t drop a set in their 5 matches at the State Tournament and for the season, the Eagles only lost 6 of the 98 sets they played!!!

The 2025 State Championship is the 5th under head coach Sarah Johnson, but the first since 2018.

Silver Lake has now played in 14 State Title Matches, won 10 State Titles, and have an overall record in state competition of 76-20 (79%) with Johnson’s record at state now standing at 40-8 with state championships in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, & now 2025.

For Holton they finish the 2025 season with a record of 38-10 with the runner-up finish at state being their best finish in school history.
