The Doniphan West Boys earned a third-place finish in the TVL tournament, their best finish in the TVL tournament since 2018, the year they won it against Hanover. It was a back-and-forth game that came down to the very last second to earn the victory.
Clifton Clyde started strong with a 19-12 lead coming out of the first quarter. The Eagles hit five threes in the first quarter, with three treys being knocked down by Ethan Sacco. Doniphan West hit two threes in the quarter to try and keep pace with one from Dustin Veach and another from Ketcher Peterson.
Doniphan West would then bounce back in the second quarter and outscore Clifton Clyde 14-7, tying the game 26-26 going into the half. Dustin Veach would hit another three in the second for the Mustangs, with Kolter Peterson finding not only a three himself but seven total points in the quarter.
Both teams would go back and forth in the third quarter with five lead changes and a total of seven lead changes in the second half. The D-West Mustangs came out on top 50-47 with Clifton-Clyde missing a buzzer-beater three to send the game into potential overtime.
Kolter Peterson finished with 16 points against the Eagles, with Dustin Veach right behind him with 12. Dustin Veach finished with three treys in the victory and hit 10 total threes along the entirety of the TVL tournament.
Doniphan West is 10-5 going into the second half of the season and will seek to finish above .500 for the first time since 2018, having already doubled their 5-win season last year. Clifton Clyde dropped to 8-7 after the loss and will look to bounce back in the second part of the season.
