TVL Tournament (at Onaga) - Quarterfinals
Doniphan West weathered the storm early trailing Axtell early on but came back and using a strong third quarter secured the 82-57 win. Axtell opened the game strong flying out to a 17-8 lead in the first and led 17-13 after one quarter. The lead flipped to Doniphan West about two minutes into the second quarter at 21-19 and the Mustangs guided themselves into halftime up 40-35 behind a 15 point second quarter by Devin Taylor and 17 first half points by Newt Smith. The second half and the third quarter mainly belonged to Doniphan West as the Mustangs notched a 21-7 third quarter to distance themselves in the game and earn the win.
The win puts Doniphan West into the Semifinals and moves them to 9-0 on the season. Smith led the way for the Mustangs with 26 points, while Taylor scored 21 points and both Fletcher Penny and Levi Watts each scored 11 points. Smith and Taylor earned Community National Bank co-"Player to Bank" honors on 92.1 KMZA for their performances. Loss sends Axtell to 3-7 on the year and into the Consolation Semifinals. Quinn Buessing had a great game for Axtell with 28 points, scoring 20 in the first half, while Jonah Porting chipped in 14 points.
