Former Holton Wildcat, Trent Tanking Leading K-State Defense

From walk-on to team captain, starter and impact player that is what hard work and dedication has earned former Holton Wildcat, Trent Tanking at Kansas State with the Wildcat football team.

With Tanking rise to success on the gridiron he’s been selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the Burlsworth trophy which is  given to the most outstanding football player who started their career as a walk-on. Three finalists are chosen from the 10 semifinalists and they are picked by fan voting which ends on November 12th (you can vote one time per day at http://burlsworthtrophy.com/index.php/greater-fan-vote/). The three finalists will be named November 14th and the winner of the award will be announced on December 4th.  

Tanking who after a redshirt season played primarily on special teams to start his career has worked his way to starting linebacker spot on for the Kansas State Wildcats and leads the team in tackles this season with 75. His 75 tackles rank sixth in the Big 12 and his 57 solo tackles rank 6th in the nation as he has 110 tackles in his career with a forced fumble and interception. The former Holton Wildcat had his career high in tackles against TCU recording 13 tackles.

While Tanking has put in plenty of hard work and dedication on the field he’s not stopped there dedicating himself to success in the classroom too has he has a 3.633 GPA and is majoring in industrial engineering and is in line to graduate in May.

In his high school career Tanking helped the Holton Wildcats to a 2012 4A State title in football and was named 4A Defensive Player of the Year and a Top 11 player in the State. He was also selected to the 2013 Kansas Shrine Bowl where he was named “Most Outstanding Player” for the East team and he also over the course of his career picked several All-State and All-League honors.

The Wildcats are 5-4 on the season with three games remaining in the regular season with matchups against West Virginia, Oklahoma State and Iowa State. Tanking and the Wildcats are looking to finish the season strong and get bowl eligible.
