Former Washington County Tiger, Dylan Hodgson Running Past the Competition With Top Performances at KU

From his time at Washington County to now at the NCAA Division I level at the University of Kansas former Washington County Tiger, Dylan Hodgson has ran himself into the record books and continually put forth spectacular performances.

Now in his junior campaign at KU Hodgson is racing past the competition in the Indoor track season competing in multiple events. He opened up the season with a second place finish in the mile at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular with a time of 4:11.86 and then won the 3,000 meter run at the Mark Colligan Memorial posting a time of 8:17.11. On February 3rd at the Rod McCravy Memorial put his name in the record books with eighth best time in the mile in KU history with a time of 4:04.16 taking third in the event. He added to that by posting the sixth best time in KU history in the 3,000 meter run at the ISU Classic on February 9-10th notching a time of 8:01.54 to win the event.

In his sophomore year at KU he competed in both cross country and track and field. During the cross country season he was the Jayhawks fourth scorer at the Big 12 Championship where he tallied a 22nd place finish in the 8K with a time of 26:13.6, while racing to 60th place at the NCAA Midwest Regionals. He kicked off his season by placing ninth at the Rim Rock Classic racing a time of 24:29.9 in an 8K. During the track season he took sixth in the 3,000 meter run in the Big 12 Indoor Championships (8:11.21) and was also part the second place distance medley relay team at the same event. The Outdoor season saw him take third in the 3,000 meter (8:52.68) and took seventh at in the 5,000 meter run to highlight his season.

Hodgson’s Jayhawk career started in 2015-16 school year and the former Washington County Tiger competed in all five cross country meets including opening his career by taking third at the Bob Timmons Classic in a 6K (19:19.5). In the track season Hodgson put forth some strong performances also in his freshman year placing seventh in the 3,000 meters at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and fifth with the distance medley relay team, while in the Outdoor season he competed at the NCAA West Preliminary taking 22nd in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and took third in that event at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.

In high school Hodgson put great performances together winning four State titles at the 2A level in track and field winning the 3,200 meter run twice, along with the 1,600 meter run and 800 meter runs once, even holding the 2A 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs. He also registered top finishes in State cross country earning All-State honors.

Hodgson looks to continue his strong performances this track season to finish the Indoor season strong and compete well in the Outdoor season, also.
