Former Nemaha Central Thunder, Kaley Dalinghaus Finding Success In New Sport

After a highly successful high school athletic career in multiple sports former Nemaha Central Thunder, Kaley Dalinghaus decided to take on a new challenge and joining the rowing team at Kansas State University and has made an impact as a freshman.

To start her collegiate career Dalinghaus was given the redshirt status for the Kansas State RowCats but it didn’t take long for Kaley to adjust to her new sport and in late October she started to jump in the fold for competition.

Dalinghaus went from redshirt to a position on the 1V8+ boat for Kansas State and has been a key piece for that team competing throughout the season. Her coaches said that Dalinghaus is the first freshman to go from a redshirt to seat on the 1V8+ boat in the same season. At the Hornet Invite Dalinghaus and the 1V8+ boat beat St. Mary’s in a head-to-head race posting a time of 6:53.70, while also competing against Sacramento State and San Diego State which is where they posting their best time of the 6:45.30 in the competition.

At the SIRA Championships in Tennessee the former Nemaha Central Thunder competed with the 1V8+ boat as they finished first in their Open Semifinals race and then finished third in the Finals (6:50.508), while also taking second in the Open Time Trail (6:00.516). During the San Diego Crew Classic Dalinghaus had a position in the 2V8+ boat and the team qualified for the Finals where they finished fourth (7:24.85). Dalinghaus and the RowCats most recently won the Sunflower Showdown Championship trophy beating KU 13-9 to win the battle for the first time since 2014. The 1V8+ boat posted a time of 6:25.35 in the competition against KU.

In high school Dalinghaus was a multi-sport athlete succeeding in volleyball, basketball and track and field earning postseason honors in all three. Kaley was part of the Thunder Volleyball team that made State in 2016, while in basketball she was part of the Baileyville-B&B 1A-DII State Championship team in 2014 and also part of the 2017 3A fourth place team at Nemaha Central. In track and field Dalinghaus closed out her high school athletic career capturing a 3A State title in the shot put (43’02) and took second in the javelin (142’00) and discus (123’00). She also placed in the throw events her junior year taking second in the shot put, third in the javelin and discus in 3A and her sophomore year placed fifth in the shot put and sixth in the javelin.

Dalinghaus and the RowCats look to put forth a strong showing at the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, May 12th and Sunday 13th to continue their season, while Dalinghaus looks to continue to build upon her opportunities at Kansas State.
