Sacred Heart Boys and Friend Girls Win Pioneer Conference Track Titles

 The Falls City Sacred Heart boys and Friend girls won the Pioneer Conference outdoor track meets on Saturday at Friend.  

The Irish boys scored 152 points, Sterling was second with 114.3, Pawnee City was third with 81 followed by Southern, Diller-Odell, Lewiston, Lourdes Central Catholic, HTRS, Friend and Johnson-Brock.

The Bulldog girls scored 114 points for the title, Sacred Heart was second with 102 followed by Sterling third with 65 and Southern fourth with 63.  Pawnee City was fifth followed by Johnson-Brock, Lourdes Central Catholic, Diller-Odell, HTRS and Lewiston. 

For the boys Sacred Hearts Clay Finck won three gold medals winning the 100 and 200 meters and running a leg of the winning 4 x400 meter relay along with Sawyer Kean, Lane Barnhill and Austin Malone. 

Chaz Dunn picked up a pair of gold medals winning the 400 and 800. He was also third in the long jump.  Sean Strasheim won the pole vault for the Irish.

Pawnee City senior Austin Smith won three events, the long jump, triple jump and high jump.  Teammate Scott Borcher won both the shot and discus for the Indians.  

Zach Creevan of Southern won the 1,600;  Kyle Stohs of Diller-Odell won the 3200; Chris Wenzl of Sterling won both of the hurdle races.

 Lourdes Central won the 4 x 100 meter relay and Southern won the 4 x 800 relay.  

For the girls Sacred Heart picked up wins in two events, Emily rohrer won the shot and Maggie Goltz won the triple jump.

Pawnee City’s Shelby Hundley won the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdle races also winning medals in the 100 and 200.  

Jeryn Creek of Southern won the 100 and the long jump. The Raider also won the 4 x 100 relay.  

Johnson-Brock junior Nicole Carbajal won both the 200 and 400 meters.

Andrea Zarybnicky of Diller-Odell won the 3200.  Jordan Lempka of Sterling won the discus.

Event winners for Friend included Taylor Menke in the 800 and 1600 meters as well as the pole vault;  Hayley Girmus won the high jump and the Bulldogs won the 4 x 800 and 4 x 800 relays.
