3-2-1, it wasn't easy, but the Sabetha Bluejay High School golf team got it done!  After placing third as a team two years ago and finishing as state runner-up last season, the Bluejays won Class 3A State on Monday at Spring Creek in Seneca.  Sabetha's top four linksters combined for 336 strokes, which was 3 better than second place Hays -TMP. 

Senior, Nolan Keim, who was part of Sabetha's top three state teams that past couple years led the charge in 2013 after battling back from a knee injury.  Keim carded a 79 on Monday which tied for 5th and he placed 9th overall after the playoff.  Tyler Ulrich shot an 81 to tie for 12th place with top Nemaha Valley golfer, Trent Olberding.  MaKennzi Knudson of Horton placed 11th with a round of 80.  Kevan Herbster of Sabetha placed 25th and Derek Hall was 48th to help Sabetha win their second boys golf title in school history and first since a sand greens title in 1968. 

"Both Nolan and Tyler had a few tense moments on the back nine, but were able to score with the short game to lead our team to the championship," said Sabetha Coach Randy Hall. 

Elsewhere, in Class 4A State Golf at Cheney - Holton had three individuals competing and two of them placed in the top 20.  Ethan Holaday logged a 74 which placed him 8th overall, while Tavin Dugan was 17th with a 77 and Kenton Tegethoff finished with a round of 83.

In 1A State Golf at Emporia, Centralia's Ryan Vernon tied for 17th with a round of 90.  Valley Heights’ Brenden Dobrovolny tied for 19th with a 91. Linn’s Zak Voelker just missed the top 20, tying for 21st with a 92.
