Academic Honors for Peru State Women's Cross Country Athletes

 For the second year in a row, Kesha Beethe (Tecumseh) and Danielle Prchal (Omaha), members of the Peru State College (PSC) cross country team, were named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team for women's track and field/cross country for District 6.

Student-athletes are nominated by current members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) which is a national organization comprised of the sports public relations, communications and information professionals throughout all levels of collegiate athletics in the United States and Canada.

In order to be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in either their undergrad or graduate work.   As part of the voting process, information regarding a nominee's academic and athletic accomplishments is considered, as are any career highlights.

The highlights submitted for Beethe included the following:  “Capital One Academic All-America Second Team 2012...2X Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete...2X HAAC Scholar-Athlete…Named Newman Civic Fellow by Campus for Civic Engagement...7X Dean's List...3X Admissions Office Student Ambassador...2X Alpha Chi...Phi Beta Lambda -national winner in two events-Developed CHANCE Initiative for elementary students...2X PEAKS member-Health Fair coordinator…Corporate Wellness Intern...Personal Trainer…Previous assistant coach for volleyball and softball.”  Beethe graduated with honors in December from Peru State and is working in corporate fitness at Nelnet in Lincoln.

For Prchal, the following information was submitted as part of her nomination:  “Capital One Academic All-America Second Team 2012...2X Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete...HAAC & MCAC Scholar-Athlete...7X Dean's List...3X Mathews Fusion Mentor for freshmen – 1X Coordinator...3X Phi Alpha Theta - VP…3X Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) member...SAAC secretary….History Day Intern…Volunteer for Arbor Day Run, 3X Nebraska's Toughest Mile, TeamMates Pancake Breakfast, Relay for Life, Mt. Vernon Cemetery Clean-up, Peru Kiwanis and Mayhew Cabin.”  Prchal is a senior majoring in social science education and will be student teaching next fall.
