For the second straight year the Centralia-Wetmore Panthers took on 3A school Riley County and dominated the Falcons in the contest cruising to a 38-0 win at home in their second game of the season.

In week one the Panthers defense completely shut down St. Mary's holding them to 92 total yards of offense and scoreless. The Panthers dominated early and throughout the game against Riley County continuing the week one performance forcing a three and out on the first Falcons offensive drive of the game and then taking over possession and marching down the field via the run game. Centralia-Wetmore finished off their first offensive drive with a one-yard touchdown run by junior, Trevor Mars, to take the 6-0 lead early.

The stout defensive trend continued for the Panthers and in the process they added two more rushing touchdowns in the first half a 34-yard run by senior, Sam Steinlage and two-yard carry by senior, JT Rosine. The Panthers went into the half holding an 18-0 lead after three first half scores (all three two-point conversions unsuccessful).

Coming out of halftime Riley County looked to try and gain some momentum on offense and moved the ball slightly but then were hit but penalties moving the Falcons backwards and Centralia-Wetmore ended their drive to force another punt. Then on the first offensive play in the second half for Centralia-Wetmore it was Rosine once more headed to pay dirt, bursting out for a 71-yard touchdown run.

The Panthers continued to control the game the rest of the way utilizing the rushing attack continually adding two more touchdown runs as Steinlage scored on a seven-yard carry and Darrian Turner added a one-yard score, to give Centralia-Wetmore a 38-0 lead and ultimately the win.

Only five passes were completed in the game between both teams but Centralia-Wetmore didn't need to throw the ball as they ran for over 400 yards in the game. Steinlage posted around 169 yards rushing, while Rosine added 121 yards on the ground each with a pair of scores. Turner put up 66 yards also for the Panthers. Centralia-Wetmore's offensive line dictated the scene throughout the night and junior, Joey Ferron was a key blocker down field leading to the great rushing night of the Panthers and earning, Ferron the Community National Bank "Play to Bank On" award on the 92.1 KMZA broadcast.

While, the rushing attack shined it was the defense that stood out the most for the Panthers, while only forcing one turnover against the Falcons the Panthers held them scoreless and held to under 70 yards of offense in the game.

The Panthers who finished as the Class 2-1A State runner-ups last year look to be primed early in the season to challenge to get back to that championship game yet again. With the win Centralia-Wetmore starts the season 2-0 and haven't lost a regular season game since September of 2011 (16 straight regular season wins). Next up for the Panthers they go on the road to take on Washington County next Friday.
