Sabetha Girls Cross Country 4th place team at Wamego Invite

It was a beautiful Saturday morning and an area team from four different leagues had at least one top 20 finish in boys and/or girls cross country competition at the Wamego Invitational.

It was the Sabetha Bluejays from the Big Seven, Pleasant Ridge from the Northeast Kansas League, Frankfort from the Twin Valley League and Marysville from the North Central Kansas League highlighting the day for area teams at the Wamego Invitational.

For the Bluejays of Sabetha they continued their solid start to the season nabbing another pair of top five team finishes as both the girls and boys teams finished fourth in competition. For the girls the competition feature 11 teams and the boys competition featured 15. On the girls side sophomore, Taryn Schuette continued to post top 10 finishes on the year taking home an eighth place finish with a time of 17:19.15. She was joined by junior, Miranda Huettner and senior, Brianna Gruber as the only other lady Bluejays to finish in the top 20, as they finished 16th (17:58.73) and 19th (18:17.69), respectively.

For the boys it was a freshman pacing the way on the day for the Bluejays as Keegan Cox was the lone top 20 finisher, taking home 11th place behind a time of 18:39.76.

The Pleasant Ridge Rams had an impressive showing on the day, also with the best boys and girls individual area performance on the day. The lady Rams took home a third place team finish behind three top 20 finishers on the day.

Junior, Kristina Silvers lead the way for the Rams taking home seventh place on the day with a time of 17:14.40. Senior, Rachel Hattok and sophomore, Hailey Worthington took home 18th and 20th place, respectively for the Rams behind times of 18:13.43 and 18:29.04.

On the boy’s side of competition junior, Tony Weber shined bright taking home second place as the top area performer at the Wamego Invitational.

Two other area boys and one girl from Frankfort and Marysville, also came away with top 20 performances at this year's Wamego Invitational. For Frankfort it was senior, Adam Koch continuing to finishing in the top tier of competition taking fifth place behind a time of 17:50.04. Marysville junior, Joe Smith notched an eighth place finish (18:29.28) while sophomore, Bryclin Alstrom took 11th place for the Bulldogs in the girl’s competition (17:39.56).

The strong showings by area cross country competitors continued this season as Northeast Kansas looks to be stacked up top flight cross country talent. All four teams now set up to continue their season on Thursday (September 19th) all at different meets. Frankfort will be at the Onaga Invite, Marysville at the Clay Center Invite, Sabetha at the Hiawatha Invite and Pleasant Ridge at the McLouth Invite.
