Nine Area Teams & One Other Square Off at Nemaha Valley Volleyball Invite

Nine area teams and one other squared off on the court in volleyball action on Saturday morning in Seneca as the Nemaha Valley Raiders hosted an Invitational.

It was pool play action that would determine the four teams to vie for the Nemaha Valley Invite crown and coming out of the Purple pool was Rock Creek and ACCHS, finishing first and second in their pool, with Pleasant Ridge, Sabetha and Nemaha Valley as the three other teams in the pool. In the White pool, it was B&B and Marysville, notching first and second in pool play against Horton, Hiawatha and Riverside as the other teams in the pool.

In the semifinals, Rock Creek took down Marysville in three sets (16-25, 26-24 & 25-21), losing set one but rallying to win the match with wins in sets two and three. In the other semifinal matchup it was B&B taking down ACCHS in three sets, just like Rock Creek coming back in the match to win sets two and three to win the match (22-25, 25-16 & 25-10).

That set up B&B and Rock Creek matchup for the Nemaha Valley Invite championship and the Mustangs got the best of the Falcons in straight sets (25-20, 25-16) to win the tourney crown with a 6-0 record. B&B finished the tournament in second place with a 5-1 record.

Marysville and ACCHS competed for third place and the Bulldogs took the bronze home in straight sets (25-20 & 25-16). Bulldogs finished 5-1 on the day, while ACCHS finished 4-2 in fourth place.

In the Purple pool, it the Rock Creek Mustangs who won the tournament won the pool with a 4-0 record winning each match in straight sets. ACCHS Tigers followed with a 3-1 pool play record with only loss to Rock Creek and all three wins being in straight sets. The host Nemaha Valley Raiders finished pool play with a pair of wins over Sabetha in three sets and Pleasant Ridge in straights, for a 2-2 day. Sabetha Bluejays managed to grab one win in pool play dispatching Pleasant Ridge in straight to go 1-3 in action, while Pleasant Ridge went 0-4.

The White pool saw the B&B Falcons, who finished second in the tournament, go a perfect 4-0 to win the pool. Falcons won all their matches in straight sets, as only one matchup in the White pool went three sets of competition. Marysville Bulldogs followed in second place in the pool with a 3-1 record with wins over Horton, Hiawatha and Riverside. The Red Hawks of Hiawatha finished the day going 2-2 beating Horton and Riverside for a pair of wins. Horton managed to wrap up the action with one win beating Riverside for a 1-4 record, while the Cyclones finished the day going 0-4.

It was the first tournament action of the season for the teams, as they now turn their attention to hitting a stride as the season starts to fully pick for all the area teams.
