On an action packed Saturday it was the first time many area teams hit the court in volleyball tournament action as a pair of Northeast Kansas League teams in Valley Falls and Jackson Heights traveled to Lyndon for the Lyndon Invitational.

The Dragons and Cobras each placed in different pools on the day and had drastically different days on the court, as well.

For Valley Falls they enjoyed the better day of the two between the teams working to a 2-1 record in pool play to finish first in their pool via a tie-breaker and advance to the semifinal action. The Dragons took down Lebo in straight sets (25-21, 28-26) and Burlingame in three sets (20-25, 25-15, 25-22) for their two wins in pool play while losing to Northern Heights in three sets (22-25, 26-24, 25-23).

In the semifinals the Dragons took on the host Lyndon who won their pool play action and Valley Falls fell in that contest in straight sets (25-14, 25-14). With that loss that put the Dragons into the consolation, third place game against Burlingame who they beat in three sets early in the day and this time only need two sets to earn the win, notching the straight set win for third place in the tournament (25-21, 28-26).

The Dragons finished the tournament 3-2 taking third place and moving to 6-8 on the season.

For the Jackson Heights Cobras it was a struggle on the day as they went 0-3 in pool play action losing in straight sets in all three games. The Cobras losses came at the hands of Lyndon, Wabaunsee and Marias des Cygnes. The Cobras are still searching for their first win of the season as they are 0-9 on the year.

Both teams now turn their attention to league action again this upcoming week with Jackson Heights headed to McLouth for a Triangular on Tuesday and Valley Falls hosting a league Triangular on Tuesday.
