Jefferson County North Takes Second at Riley County Volleyball Invite

Three area teams took to the court on Saturday (September 14th) in their first volleyball tournament action of the year as the Jefferson County North Chargers, Clifton-Clyde Eagles and Valley Heights Mustangs all competed in the Riley County Invitational.

It was the number one team in Class 2A, the lady Chargers of Jefferson County North highlighting the action for the area teams as they moved to 7-2 on the season with a 3-2 showing in the tournament taking home a second place finish. Chargers finished second in their pool notching straight wins over Clifton-Clyde and Chapman, while falling to Riley County in straight sets. In the bracket play, JCN opened it up with a three set win over Clay Center before falling to Mission Valley in three sets in the championship game.

Pair of Twin Valley League teams in Clifton-Clyde and Valley Heights struggled on the day each only coming away from the day’s action with one win.

For the Eagles they went 1-2 in pool play action with a win over Chapman, but fell in both their consolation bracket matchups losing in straight sets, moving the Eagles to 2-7 on the year.

The Mustangs were held without a win in pool play action going 0-3, but opened up the consolation bracket play with a win over Clifton-Clyde to vie for fifth place in the tournament but fell in that contest to Chapman in three sets to finish the tourney 1-4. With that 1-4 outing the Mustangs moved to 4-5 on the season.

All three teams now turn their attention back to league action in the upcoming week after their first volleyball tournament action of the season.
