Hiawatha Red Hawk Tennis Player, Jamie Clary Takes First in Competition at Bonner Springs Invite

With Regionals on the horizon the girl’s tennis regular season this fall is coming to a close for many area teams and the Hiawatha Red Hawks wrapped up the season at the Bonner Springs Invitational.

Highlighting the final competition of the year was Red Hawk singles competitor, Jamie Clary who was a perfect 4-0 in the singles competition number two on the day. Winning her three pool play matches 8-3, 8-6 and the toughest match of pool play coming against DeSoto with Jamie winning 8-7(5) in tiebreaker. Clary finished off the day taking down her opponent from Baldwin in the first place match, grabbing a 8-7 (8-6) tiebreaker win.

In doubles competition the two Red Hawk tandems on the day each picked up one win in the action, both going 1-2 on the day.

Cori Herrera and Lydia Lierz home an 8-4 win over Topkea High for their win on the day, while Morgan Ward and Kaitla Wilson an 8-2 win against their competitors, also from Topeka High, while holding close against Bonner Springs in a 8-6 loss.

The Red Hawks closed out the regular season continually improving throughout the year and will look to build on that improvement when they head to Regionals next Friday, October 11th in Leavenworth at Immaculata.
