Sacred Heart Cruises Past Meridian

 (KTNC) - Falls City Sacred Heart took advantage of two first quarter Meridian turnovers, and quarterback Chaz Dunn threw touchdown passes to four different receivers, as the top-ranked Irish rolled to a 49-6 victory over Meridian Friday night in Daykin, Nebraska.

Dunn had touchdown passes to Sean Strasheim, Brandon Schawang, Logan Scheitel, and Colin Niemeyer, and Schawang, Dunn, and Sawyer Kean each scored a rushing touchdown in the game.

Sacred Heart scored the first 49 points of the game, building leads of 21-0 after one quarter, 42-0 at halftime, and 49-0 at the end of three quarters.  Meridian got on the board in the fourth quarter when quarterback Ty Brakhage hit Lupe Dimas on a 19 yard scoring pass.  The entire second half was played with a running clock.

For the game, Dunn completed 17 of 21 passes for 208 yards and four touchdowns.  Kean led the Irish running game with 50 yards on five carries.

Junior I-back Brandon Jackson carried the Mustang offense, with 146 yards rushing on 23 carries, with nearly half the yardage coming on two carries of 34 and 38 yards.

Sacred Heart took advantage of two first quarter Meridian turnovers.  The Irish recovered a fumble at the Mustang one yard line to set up one score and Zavan Kirkendall intercepted a pass to set up another.

Sacred Heart also got a strong game from kicker Yianni Haralabidis.  He converted all seven of his extra-point attempts and seven of eight kick-offs went for touchbacks.

With the win, Sacred Heart improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in district play.  Meridian Falls to 2-3 on the season.  Sacred Heart hosts Sterling this coming week.  The Jets are 3-2 after falling to Lewiston Friday night.
