With the district title locked up for the first time since 2001 the Nemaha Valley Raiders were just looking for win number eight on the season and some momentum headed in the Tuesday for the Bi-district opening rounds of the Class 3A playoffs. That eighth win on the season came with a 19-6 victory over Marysville at home.

On a night of spooks the only spooky thing was the offense early on for both teams in the competition, the Raiders operating without many key players due to injuries and looking to get a chance to rest some key guys saw the offense sputter in the first half, but their opponent Marysville did, too.

Neither team ball with consistency in the first half and the lone score before halftime came on special teams as Devin Henry who started at quarterback in place of the injured Caleb Meyer, took a punt back 60 yards for a score, to give the Raiders a 7-0 lead at the half.

Sophomore, Tristan Allen took over the Raiders offense in the second half and orchestrated two offensive drives to start the second half that both resulted in touchdowns. Allen and the Raiders marched down the field and capped up a scoring drive with a 35-yard pass from Allen to Zach Bradley, while Allen added a two-yard touchdown run, too giving Nemaha Valley a 19-0.

The Bulldogs who were looking to snap a 22-game losing streak coming into the contest, continued to fight until the end of the game as they managed a late score on a Triston Hormann 16-yard touchdown pass Tommy Bringaer for the lone Bulldog points of the competition. With the loss the Bulldogs finished the season 0-9 and will have to wait until next year to snap a 23-game losing streak.

Allen and Henry lead the Raiders offense each with 60-plus yards rushing, while Allen had the rushing and passing touchdown on the night.

Nemaha Valley moves to 8-1 on the season and now turns their attention to Bi-district playoff action on Tuesday when they play host to rival the Sabetha Bluejays who fell to Hiawatha in the district showdown on Halloween.
