Taking flight one last time the B&B Falcons volleyball team began their quest for a three-peat as Class 1A-Division II State Champs and flew high once more going 5-0 at the State tournament and going out on top as 1A-Division II champs in the final year of B&B high school.

Falcons started pool play Friday afternoon taking on eight seed, Ingalls in their first game of pool play and Ingalls kept it tight in both sets but B&B was able to down the eight seed in straight sets 25-17, 25-18. Next up on the docket was the five seed, Dighton Hornets and this match would prove an attention getter for the lady Falcons as Dighton and B&B traded blows continually in set one and ultimately Dighton surprised the Falcons and took set one 26-24, meaning B&B would need a set two win to force a third set to get the win and that they would do. Set one loss perhaps triggered the Falcons to hunker down and take it to Dighton in the next two sets grabbing 25-13 and 25-16 sets two and three wins to take the match.

Looking to cap of pool play with a perfect 3-0 record the Falcons took on St. John’s/Tipton and flew to another straight set win; taking both sets 25-21 for the win.  While the Falcons were just looking to take down St. John’s/Tipton to win pool play but the match had a little more emotional tie for the Falcons as former B&B Falcon, Krista Schmitz took on her former Coach in Jessica Koch, as Schmitz is the head coach of St. John’s/Tipton. With that win the Falcons won the pool with a 3-0 record and set up to take on Logan who finished as the runner-up in the other pool.

As B&B Falcon senior, Laura Sudbeck said after the tournament not winning was never an option and the B&B Falcons looking to refocus did just that bounding as a team and a family and zeroing in on the goal of the State title again.

Falcons hit the court for the Semifinals and from the start her dialed in displaying their “A” game breezing past Logan in straight sets 25-13 and 25-8. With the win the Falcons moved to the Championship match where they faced off against Dighton once again, who they beat in three sets in pool play. With time before the title game the lady Falcons looked to get dialed in and listened back to the State championship broadcast from last year and took to the court to continue their momentum from the semifinals.

When the Championship match started the Falcons continued to churn along like a well-oiled machine and dispatched Dighton in straight sets 25-15 and 25-16 to complete the three-peat as 1A-Division II State Champs, as Jenny Deters notched the final point for B&B volleyball in the team’s history.

As usual it was a true team performance by the lady Falcons utilizing all their players on the team but four Falcons were honored with individual honors earning Class 1A-Division II All-State tournament team. Seniors, Laura Sudbeck, Katie Huerter, Ashley Kramer and Cassidy Hulsing all notched the All-tournament honors for B&B. For Laura she earned those honors all four years of her high school career, Huerter picked up the honors for the third straight year and for Kramer it was her second straight year to pick the All-tournament honors.

With the 5-0 performance and State championship the B&B Falcons volleyball program goes out on top as State champs three straight years and set a new school record for wins in a single season going 42-3 on the year.

The end of an era came of the weekend but the B&B volleyball program capped off a storybook year in the only possible way, State Champs!
