Frankfort, Wetmore, Centralia & Axtell Highlight 1A State Cross Country Meet

For the final time this season runners ready the words “Ready, take your marks” and the pistol fire as the State competition’s for cross country commenced over the weekend across the State of Kansas.

Multiple area runners form the Twin Valley League took to the course in Wamego at the Country Club to race one final time this season in the Class 1A State competition.

Class 1A on the boy’s side saw plenty of top flight performances eight runners finishing in the top 30 and two area teams finishing in the top four. The Frankfort Wildcat boys finished with the best area team performance of any classification taking home second place out of 12 teams competing. Senior, Adam Koch lead the way taking home third place with a time of 17:24.55, while his teammates freshman, Noah Suther and senior, Keith Huddleston took home 26th and 29th with times of 19:28.26 and 19:32.30. Alex Roeder took home 35th (19:43.54), Sheldon Parthemer placed 40th (20:03.07), Rylen Bailey notched a 46th place finish (20:17.03) and Brenden Levi placed 72nd (21:42.96) rounded out the Wildcat performances.

Wetmore boys took home the other top four team finish; taking fourth place behind three top 30 finisher. Senior, Josh Ballenger lead the charge for the Cardinals taking home 17th place after racing to a time of 18:49.62. Freshman, Aaron Achten and junior, Jeremy Hoelscher took home 22nd and 27th place finishes for the Cardinals with time of 19:08.33 and 19:29.99. Rounding out the performances for the Cardinals was Layne Hodge who took 53rd place (20:35.60) and Isiah Ballenger placed 71st (21:39.94).

Two other individual runners from the area joined Frankfort’s, Koch in the top 10 in the 1A boys competition as Axtell senior, Tracey Schmitz took home seventh place posting a time of 18:00.83 and Valley Heights freshman, Adrian Pishny notched tenth place behind a time of 18:33.07.

On the girls side of competition in 1A it was the Centralia Panthers highlighting the competition for the area as a pair of freshman in Sadie Jones and Madison Boeckman took home top 30 performances. Jones ran her way to a seventh place with a time of 17:10.65, just a little of eight seconds out of a top five finish. Boeckman took home 25th place as the third best performance from the area competitors posting a time of 18:29.49.

Axtell Eagle, Susan Peschel took home the second best area performance finishing 24th behind a time of 18:22.49 to lead the lady Eagles team who finished eighth as a team. Tricia Schmitz took home 47th place (19:46.30), Paige Menninga placed 49th (20:11.35); while Alexis Werner ran to a 56th place finish (20:39.05) and CJ Strohmeyer took 76th place (22:09.16).

Doniphan West also competed as a team and placed tenth out of the 12 teams competing. Junior, Kassydi Miller led the Mustangs placing 45th with a time of 19:36.53. Mackenzie Boos took home 53rd for the Mustangs (20:30.62), Elayne Clevenger followed her placing 64th (21:02.66), while Jessica Neibling was directly behind her teammate placing 65th (21:07.14). Finishing out the team performances for the Mustangs were Kim Elliott and Cara Prawl who took home 74th and 75th with times of 22:08.79 and 22:09.08.

Two other TVL runners competed in the girls 1A state competition as Clifton-Clyde Eagle, Abby Sikes notched a 36th place finish (18:59.78) and Miranda Ohlde of Valley Heights placed 52nd (20:29.72).

Another successful year displayed by Twin Valley League teams in Class 1A State cross country meet.
