JCN, Washington County, Onaga, Jackson Heights & McLouth Runners All Compete at 2A Cross Country Meet

For the final time this season runners ready the words “Ready, take your marks” and the pistol fire as the State competition’s for cross country commenced over the weekend across the State of Kansas.

Class 2A competition featured teams from the Twin Valley League and Northeast Kansas League from the area and saw four top 30 performances between the girls and boys competitions.

On the boys side three area teams competed and finished sixth, eighth and tenth out of 12 teams, as Washington County, Jefferson County North and Onaga notched those team performances.

The top area 2A performance came at the hands of Washington County Tiger junior, Dylan Hodgson who notched a second place performance posting a time of 16:51.52. His teammate, Eric Miller took home the second best Tiger performance finishing 39th place (19:03.08), while Jefferson Simmons took home 55th (19:34.24) and Kyle McGatlin was right behind him at 56th (19:35.90). Finishing out the team performances for the Tigers were Tristan Miller who took 69th (20:06.27) and Martin Walter placed 94th (21:51.74).

JCN Charger boys who took eight as a team saw Devon Wilson take home an 11th place finish with a time of 17:44.11, just under three seconds off of a top 10 finish at State. Bryson Weishaar took home 41st for the Chargers (19:05.85) finishing as the only other Charger in the top 50. Ted Sharp notched a 60th place finish (19:47.56), Tyler Nolting placed 77th (20:36.21), Spencer Hubbard placed 79th (20:41.18), Ty Brickell ran to 83rd (21:01.27) and Thomas Steichen followed in 84th (21:05.03).

The Onaga Buffalo boys also competed as a team and placed tenth as sophomore, Michael Eisenbarth lead the way placing 43rd on the day with a time of 19:06.77. Fellow sophomore, Jackson Glessner had the second best Buffalo performance with a 66th place (19:58.70), while Luke Marten crossed the finish line shortly their after in 68th place (20:01.08). Finishing off the Buffalo performances on the day was: James Johnson who placed 85th (21:06.61), Wade Minihan took home 89th (21:33.10), Jonathan Fairbanks placed 91st (21:35.16) and Blake Wesley finished 101st (25:31.72).

Only one other boy form the area competed and that was McLouth Bulldog, Ryan Bristol who raced his way to a 72nd place finish with a time of 20:14.33.

On the girls side it was the Lady Chargers of JCN notching a seventh place team performance and they were led by Carissa McAfee who placed 18th behind a time of 17:08.50. Her teammate, Laramie Leakey finished right outside the top 30, placing 31st with a time of 17:38.60. Julie Schrick notched 53rd place (18:32.92) for the Chargers, while Abbie Weishaar placed 66th (19:21.04), Mkayla Bertels took home 81st (20:44.57), Molly Bassette ran to a 91st place (22:08.51) and Maggie Sharp placed 93rd (22:32.77).

Jackson Heights Cobra junior, Kaitlynn Little ran her way to a 30th place performance posting a time of 17:35.80. While, Onaga Buffalo freshman, Maggie Revell and Alexis VanDonge placed 39th and 51st posting times of 18:02.19 and 18:31.23, respectively.

The season wrapped up with solid performances by the area teams competing in Class 2A State cross country competition.
