The Mother Nature again this football season made sure she was a part of another game this time causing teams perhaps adjust game plans and play against Mother Nature along with playing their opponent.

The rain and wind played a factor in the Bi-District rivalry showdown between Nemaha Valley and Sabetha in Seneca as the Raiders earned the 6-0 win in a game that featured defense, slippery playing conditions and a heavy dosage of the run game.

Sabetha opened up the game looking like the Bluejays would take flight first and get on the board early with a 17 play drive that spanned 70-plus yards but stalled with a fourth down in the redzone for the Bluejays as the Raiders defense stopped Sabetha when needed on the drive.

From that point on neither team really got into any sort of offense groove as Nemaha Valley had a fumble and interception in the first half to stall out a pair of offensive drives and Sabetha returned to the redzone again but once more turned the ball over on downs after failing to convert a fourth down play.

With the rain pelting the teams they went into half having attempted four passes and zero passing yards combined and more importantly tied at 0-0.

The second half was much the same neither team able to move the ball early, just trading field position and then the one play that would change the game happened in the third quarter as Sabetha botched a snap on a punt deep in their own territory and Nemaha Valley took over on the Bluejay nine-yard line. Churning out a few yards the Raiders capped off the Sabetha mistake with a two-yard TD run by Devin Henry, who later left the game injured; the extra point was blocked.

That would be the only score in the game and proved to be all Nemaha Valley needed as Sabetha cost themselves a pair of drives in the second half with two fumbles and for the third time in the game the Bluejays offense was stymied by the Raiders defense on a fourth down in the redzone.

Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors went to the Raiders defense as they stopped Sabetha in the redzone three times on fourth downs and recovered two fumbles against the Bluejays in the second half.

For Sabetha, Brett Plattner led the way in the loss with 80 yards rushing in the contest as Bluejays compiled 180 yards on the ground.

Nemaha Valley was led by Caleb Meyer who had 80 yards on 19 carries and Henry who had 50 yards on 13 carries and the lone TD.

With the loss Sabetha falls to 4-6 to see their season come to a close, while Nemaha Valley picked up their first playoff win since 1997 and moved to 9-1 on the season claiming the Bi-District title. The Raiders will continue their season and playoff run on Saturday at home against Rossville who beat Pleasant Ridge in the opening round 49-0.
