Holton Wrestling Continues Strong Showing With Pair Wins over Desoto & Santa Fe Trail

Coming off a 4A State Championship the Holton Wildcats came into the 2013-14 wrestling season ranked number one and have lived up to that bill early on in the season winning the Spring Hill Dual Tournament and on Thursday night taking down Desoto and Santa Fe Trail in a pair of duals for two more wins this season.

Wildcats dominated Desoto notching a 64-16 victory all but three weight classes in the dual. In the 145lb weight class, Spencer Baum took home a major decision victory topping his opponent with a score of 14-2, while Brady McDaniel won his match via pinfall at the 170lb weight class. Clayton Folk also earned a pinfall win for the Wildcats winning his match in two minutes at 182lbs. Holton also picked up eight forfeit wins in the dual with Desoto to grab the win.

The matchup against Santa Fe Trail proved to be a much tight dual with Holton coming out on top with the 39-33 win to remain unbeaten in duals on the season. Folk made it a 2-0 night for himself earning his second pinfall win this time winning in just in a minute at 182lbs. Nathan Shields and Brandon Lenherr joined Folk with pinfall wins against Santa Fe Trail as Sheilds won in 2:24 at 195lbs and Lenherr won quickly at 220lbs.

Dominic Buterakos had a 2-0 night with a win at 120lbs via a major decision, 19-10 to go with his forfeit win against Desoto, while Justin Pool added a tech fall win for the Wildcats in the dual (2:56, 15-0). Both Mason Baum and Trey Haverkamp each earned wins via a decision. For Haverkamp he won 6-5 at 138lbs and Mason notched a 4-2 win at 160lbs. Cooper Zeller added a win via forfeit for the Wildcats.

Holton will hit the mat again on Saturday taking part in the Clay Center Duals Invite starting at 9:00am.

 

**Jeff West also picked up a pair of wins over Desoto and Santa Fe Trail at the Jeff West Double Dual. Jeff West 63-15 over Desoto and 46-28 over Santa Fe Trail.
