ACCHS Wrestlers Compete With High Level Competition Taking 7th at Eudora Invite

It’s been a strong start to the wrestling season for the ACCHS Tigers as the won their home tournament last week and currently rank seventh as a team in the latest 3-2-1A rankings by the KWCA, with four individuals ranked in their weight classes.

The Tigers took the mats again on Saturday as they competed in the Eudora Invitational along with 22 other schools and placed seventh as a team.

On the day ACCHS was led by eight wrestlers finishing in the top eight of their weight classes with the best performance coming from the fifth ranked wrestler in the state at 170lbs, Scott Birkinsha who notched a third place finish on the day going 7-1 in competition. Birkinsha took home third place with a tough 3-2 decision win in the third place match.

Freshman, Hunter Ostertag and junior, Logan Bowen both notched fourth place performances at 106 and 132lbs, respectively. Ostertag finished the day with a 3-3 record, falling in the third place game in a tight battle, losing by a 4-2 decision. Bowen the third ranked wrestler in 3-2-1A at 132lbs finished the day 5-2 taking fourth place.

Senior, Kyle Chew (160lbs) along with junior, Bratton Forbes (220lbs) each placed sixth in their weight classes going 2-4 and 3-4 on the day in competition. Dillion Weaver (182lbs) and Justin Wagner (152lbs) both added seventh place performances for the Tigers on the day, while Jordan Herman (113lbs) tallied an eighth place.

Alongside the top eight finishers on the day Dalton Armstrong (120lbs), Chance Montgomery (126lbs), Willy Dieckman (138lbs), Sam Reiss (145lbs) and Ryan Vollmer (195lbs) all competed on the day for the Tigers.

Overall another strong showing early in the season for the ACCHS Tigers against tough competition from higher classifications throughout the state. The Tigers won’t take to the mats again for action until after Christmas break with their next action on Saturday, January 11th  at the Rossville Invitational.
