It was a Northeast Kansas League battle between Jackson Heights and Maur Hill Mount Academy on Tuesday night. More importantly, teams are trying to get momentum heading into the Christmas break that is quickly approaching.

In the first quarter, the Lady Cobras struck early and often to take a 15-4 lead. Maur Hill Mount Academy bounced back nicely with a 12 point second quarter to only trail 21-16 at the half. The Lady Ravens had chances in the fourth quarter to get their first NEKL victory, but Jackson Heights was too much as the Lady Cobras won 35-29.

Jackson Heights used balanced scoring as no one recorded double-digit numbers. Instead, junior Jessica Keehn led the way scoring eight points. The next closest was junior Jordan Wells with six points. Junior Kendra Brull played an excellent game for the Lady Ravens and was the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game. She finished with 11 points and recorded a bunch of rebounds.

Maur Hill Mount Academy fell to 2-3 on the year with two of those losses coming to NEKL opponents. The Lady Cobras are 2-3, but pick up their first league victory.

The boys matchup featured an elite matchup. Jackson Heights entered with a perfect 4-0 record while Maur Hill Mount Academy was riding a three-game winning streak after losing the opening game to Troy in overtime. The Ravens wasted no time to attack and entered halftime with a 26-18 advantage. Jackson Heights was able to put points on the board, but MHMA wouldn’t let the Cobras get any closer as the Ravens went into the fourth up 41-33. The Cobras struck back in the final quarter, but the Ravens held on to knock off undefeated Jackson Heights 56-42.

Junior Dillon Kramer paced the Ravens with 14 points and lots of rebounds to be the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game.
