Bluejays win Burlington Tourney

The Sabetha boys basketball is still undefeated at 12-0 following their Championship on Saturday night at the Burlington Invitational.  Sabetha defeated Paola 53-39 in the title match after knocking off the host, Burlington, 60-51 in Friday night's semifinal.  The Jays scored a season high 74 points in their opening round win against Rossville (74-43).

Overcoming obstacles, the Bluejays did not get back to Sabetha on Friday night until 12:30 AM and then departed back to Burlington Saturday at 12:30 PM.  The Jays had lost some heart-breakers and was 0-5 in championship games at the Burlington Tourney until breaking through in 2014.  Gaven Schumann was named to the All-Tournament Team and named the MVP, while Jacob Frey and Brett Plattner also made the All Tourney squad.

In the title game, the Jays jumped to a 20-9 first quarter lead against Paola and never really looked back. Jacob Frey had 15 points while Kellen Russell added 14 and Gaven Schumann 10.

Until Friday, the Bluejays had won all their games by double-digits, except the 4OT victory at Holton.
