Holton Wins Home Sadowski Wrestling Tournament

Holton Wildcat wrestling as great as they have been on the mat in years had never won their home Sadowski wrestling tournament but accomplished that goal this year winning the team title by 30 points in a competition that featured 17 teams.

Onaga, Oskaloosa, Pleasant Ridge and Perry Lecompton also from the area competed in Holton on Saturday finishing 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th as teams on the day’s action.

The number one team in Class 4A all season, Holton was led by Jonah Lutz (132lbs), Andrew Rieschick (160lbs), Kyle Mick (182lbs) and Bradley Hooper (220lbs) who all four took home first place finishes on the day. Jonah Lutz put up a 4-0 day with three pinfall wins and a bye on his way to the individual title at 132lbs; Jonah won the championship bout with a pin a 2:33. Andrew Rieschick also went 4-0 on the day with three pinfall wins and a tech fall win in the championship bout at 160lbs, while Mick finished 4-0 with two pinfall wins, a bye and a win via decision in his championship match. Hooper registered a first place showing at 220lbs by going 4-0 with a bye, pinfall win and pair of decision victories.

Second place showings were garnered by Cooper Zeller (285lbs), Justin Rieschick (138lbs) and Tyler Price (120lbs) for the Holton Wildcats. Zeller finished the day 2-1 with a pinfall win but fell by pinfall in the championship bout, while Justin Rieschick posted a 3-1 record on the day falling in a tight decision in the championship bout losing a 7-6 decision. Price also went 3-1 on the day, finishing with a pair of pinfall wins.

Mason Baum (170lbs) took home a third place finish going 4-1 in action, while Lucas Lovvorn (152lbs) registered a fifth place finish and Jameson Lutz (106lbs) placed sixth for the Wildcats.

For Onaga they were led on the day with a pair of fourth place finishes, a fifth and sixth place finish too. Both Trenton Ross (120lbs) and Andrew Beck (152lbs) each took home fourth place finishes each posting 4-2 records. Kyle Ames (182lbs) took fifth place with a 4-2 record and Dustin Blow (195lbs) earned sixth place with a 3-3 record.

Oskaloosa/McLouth saw Mark Nickels (120lbs) place third after posting a 5-1 record on the day, while Griffin Matney (145lbs) registered a sixth place showing with a 3-3 record.

Pleasant Ridge Ram, Brandon Broddle (120lbs) placed sixth place to lead the Rams on the day going 2-3 on the mat.

Perry Lecompton had one top ten finisher as Austin Jantz (285lbs) finished sixth place posting a 1-3 record on the day.
