Jefferson County North Girls Basketball Tournament- Day One

At the JCN girls basketball tournament, three top seeds moved on while one lower seed survived close game.

#1 Jefferson County North- 93, #8 Oskaloosa- 33
JCN, the number one-ranked team in Class 2A, jumped out to a 31-6 lead after the first quarter. Oskaloosa was only outscored 20-15 in the second quarter, but the JCN Lady Chargers cruised to a 93-33 victory over Oskaloosa. The Lady Bears were paced by junior Rachel Harding’s 11 points. Senior Jacee Kramer had an impressive night, finishing with 25 points. Heather Polson chipped in 15 points, Jamie Navinskey scored 14, Randi Noll finished with 12, Lyndsey Vittitow recorded 11 and Jenna Kramer put up 10.
 
#4 Perry LeCompton- 64, #5 Maranatha- 35
A team consisted of seniors, the Lady Kaws of Perry LeCompton wasted no time to gain a lead. PL scored 17 in the first and followed it up with a 22-point second quarter to lead 39-15 at the break. The Lady Kaws coasted to a 64-35 victory. Senior Madison Hess paced the Lady Kaws with 25 points. Senior Taylor Fuller scored 15 points and sophomore Samantha Mallonee chipped in 12. Maranatha junior Alayna Gabbert led the charge for the Lady Eagles with 11 points to be the only double figure scorer.
 
#2 Cornerstone- 56, #7 McLouth- 36
Cornerstone ended the first quarter up 14-6, but McLouth bounced back to only trail 22-17 at halftime. The difference was the third quarter when Cornerstone broke away from the Lady Bulldogs after dropping 20 points. The Lady Saints would then win the fourth quarter and ended up with a 56-36 victory. Cornerstone had three players in double figures. Sophomore Olivia Hamilton led with 14, junior Hannah Carr scored 11 and junior Abby Holloway recorded 10. Junior Meghan Jackson paced the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points while junior Angela Dailey helped the scoring total by scoring 12.
 
#3 Valley Falls- 34, #6 ACCHS- 38
Both these teams met to start the season and ACCHS pulled out a narrow 48-43 victory. Not as much scoring this time around, but still a close battle. ACCHS scored 11 points in the first quarter, but only mustered up four in the second. The Lady Tigers though hung on to a 15-14 lead at the break. ACCHS pushed forward in the third quarter to lead 28-22. The 13-point quarter would be the difference as the Lady Tigers survived, winning 38-34. Junior Rachel Newquist was the lone double-figure scorer for ACCHS as she scored 12 points. Valley Falls sophomore Callie Watson led all scorers with 14 points.
