Eighteen Area Teams in Latest KBCA Rankings -- Feb. 23rd

As we head into the final week of regular season high school basketball action in Kansas the KBCA has released its latest set of rankings and 18 area teams find themselves in the rankings.

Six area teams moved up or down this week in the rankings, while one area team jumped into the rankings for the first time this season.

Class 4A-Division II: 

The Holton Wildcats continue to highlight the polls from the area as both the girls and boys teams remain ranked this week at number seven and four, respectively. Holton is one of four schools in Class 4A-DII that have both their boys and girls teams ranked. Holton boys last week topped ACCHS and Santa Fe Trail to improve to 13-5 on the season, while the girls beat ACCHS but lost to Santa Fe Trail to move to 12-7 on the year.

Santa Fe Trail Lady Chargers continue to remain ranked but fell one spot this week to number three after beating Holton, but falling to Sabetha at home for their first Big Seven league loss of the year, moving to 16-3 on the season.

Class 3A: 

A new addition to the polls this week in Class 3A as the Lady Raiders of Nemaha Valley jumped into the polls for the first time this season checking in at number nine this week with their 15-3 record on the season after topping Sabetha and Jeff West last week. The Lady Raiders are riding an 11-game winning streak. The Raider men are yet again ranked this week as they remained at number six in the polls after a 1-1 week, falling to Sabetha but beating Jeff West in double overtime, to move to 16-2 on the year.

Sabetha Bluejay boys continued to roll this season beating Nemaha Valley for the second time this year and Santa Fe Trail both on the road to remain unbeaten on the season at 19-0. Bluejays remained ranked at number three this week in the polls after winning the Big Seven League title.

Marysville Lady Bulldogs continued to remain ranked also moving up two spots this week to number eight in the polls after wins over Chapman and Centralia last week, improving their record to 15-4 on the season.

Class 2A: 

The Lady Chargers of Jefferson County North continue to dominate their opponents cruising to 18-0 on the season as they breezed past McLouth and Maur Hill-Mount Academy last week. Remaining unbeaten on the season kept the Chargers number one yet again this week.

Washington County Lady Tigers continued to remain ranked, too as they moved up two spots to number six after beating Frankfort and Doniphan West last week to improve to 16-2 on the season.

On the boys side the Valley Falls Dragons moved to 17-1 on the season last week by beating Horton and Jackson Heights to claim the first NEKL title in the process. Despite the strong week the Dragons fell one spot in the rankings to number three in polls.

Class 1A-Division I: 

All five Twin Valley League teams ranked for the past few weeks continued to remain ranked in the latest KBCA polls.

On the girls side Valley Heights moved to 17-1 on the season by topping B&B in overtime on Friday and remained ranked at number two in poll. While, Linn posted a 2-1 week last week, beating Wakefield and Onaga but falling to B&B on the road to move to 13-5 on the season and remain ranked at number seven.

In the boys poll Hanover, Valley Heights and Centralia all remained ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the latest polls. For the Hanover Wildcats they moved to 17-3 on the season after beating Clifton-Clyde and Doniphan West last week on the road. Valley Heights improved to 16-2 on the season with their double overtime win over B&B at home, while Centralia beat Marysville and St. Mary's to move to 14-4 on the season.

Class 1A-Division II: 

The B&B Lady Falcons continued to remain ranked number one in that latest polls going 2-1 last week in action beating Linn at home, Bishop Seabury on the road and falling in overtime at Valley Heights. Falcons sit at 17-3 on the season after their 2-1 week last week.

On the boys side of the rankings both the B&B Falcons and Axtell Eagles fell one spot in the rankings to number five and six in the poll. B&B moved to 13-7 on the season with wins over Linn and Bishop Seabury last week, but lost in double overtime to Valley Heights, also. The Axtell Eagles posted just a 1-2 record last week to move to 12-8 on the year as they topped Axtell, but lost to Hanover and Troy.
