Nemaha Valley completes Big Seven play with sweep over ACCHS

It two over two months, but the two squads finally met up for a rematch in the Big Seven. When the scoreboard shut off, Nemaha Valley went on the road and swept ACCHS. Lady Raiders won 57-40 while the boys team defeated ACCHS 69-38.

Four total three-pointers were made in the opening frame, three of which coming from ACCHS senior Taylor Vandeloo. She started off with the hot hand, but cooled off as ACCHS trailed 16-11 at the end of the quarter. In the second, ACCHS would get the deficit down to a one-possession game, but NV would bounce back. Lady Raiders led 26-22 at the break. Nemaha Valley pulled away in the third quarter to go into the final period, up 42-33. A 9-0 run to start the quarter and the Lady Raiders cruised to a 57-40 win.
 
No players were in double figures for Nemaha Valley, but nine different players scored a point. Juniors Kennedy McKernan and Jaci Swart and sophomore Rachel Baumgartner each had eight points. Taylor Vandeloo was the lone player in double figures with 17 points and four made threes to be the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game.
 
Nemaha Valley goes to 16-3 on the season, 11-2 in Big 7 play while ACCHS falls to 7-12 and 3-9 in the league.
 
Nemaha Valley seniors Caleb Meyer and Evan Hermesch set the tone in the boys match. Both players scored seven apiece in the first quarter to give NV a 14-6 cushion. Senior Justice McKernan took over in the second quarter to go with Hermesch and Meyer to extend the lead to 25 at halftime, up 36-11. ACCHS came out of the gates in the second half and scored 20 points and cut the deficit to 18 going into the final quarter, but NV controlled the fourth quarter to win 69-38.
 
McKernan finished with 15 to pace the Raiders while Hermesch scored 13 and Meyer chipped in 11. Only one Tiger had a double-digit night and that was senior Ryan Olmstead, who finished with 12 points to be the Bank of Atchison Player of the game.
 
Nemaha Valley finishes Big 7 play with an 11-2 record and 16-2 overall. Raiders take on Jefferson County North on Friday. For ACCHS, the Tigers are 0-19, 0-12 in league play and wraps up the regular season on Tuesday at Riverside.
