If the Valley Falls Dragons couldn’t have the perfect overall record, the next best thing is knocking off all other league opponents. The Dragons capped off their regular season as NEKL champions with an 8-0 record in the first-ever Northeast Kansas League. Valley Falls took down McLouth 62-51 and the Lady Dragons won 63-20 to complete the sweep.

In boys action, McLouth played inspired basketball as the Bulldogs started the game on a 9-0 run. Valley Falls countered with a 6-0 run and both teams would trade buckets for the rest of the first quarter. McLouth came out of the opening frame with a 20-15 lead. Just like the first meeting, Valley Falls furiously rallied back and tied up the game at 30-30 at halftime. The Dragons commanded the second half and held on for a 62-51 victory.

Valley Falls senior Luke Burns didn’t score his season-high 30 points like last time, but the 5-11 point guard influenced the game with his passing and 17 points. Senior Max Badgett scored seven of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to earn the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game. Senior Ben Gantz also chipped in 12 points. Senior Buck McAferty made four three-pointers and ended with 25 points to lead McLouth in the loss.

The Dragons finished the season at 19-1 and hosts Immaculata on Tuesday while McLouth feel to 10-10 and goes to Troy on Tuesday.

In girls play, Valley Falls started slow, but once the Lady Dragons were in a groove, they had no problems with McLouth. Valley Falls led 30-11 at the break and cruised to a 63-20 victory.

Valley Falls had three players in double figures. Sophomore Callie Watson paced the Lady Dragons with 15 points to be the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game. Sophomore Ali Brown scored 13 points and junior Anna Coleman had 10 off the bench. Sophomore Anna Moore led McLouth with seven points.
