Final KBCA Rankings Released with 17 Area Teams in the Polls -- March 2nd

Postseason play is upon us and the KBCA has released its final set of rankings with 17 area teams in the rankings heading into postseason play.

Four area teams moved up in the polls this week, while four also moved down in the rankings as well.

Class 4A-Division II:

The Holton Wildcats continue to anchor spots in the rankings with both the boys and girls in the rankings yet again. Holton boys remained ranked fourth as they are 15-5 on the season riding a five-game winning streak, closing the season out with a 69-38 win over Immaculata. The Holton girls shot up two spots to number five this week after closing out the season by winning nine of their final 10 games of the regular season and sit at 13-7 on the year. Both the boys and girls open up sub-state action later this week with games against Jeff West.

Santa Fe Trail Lady Chargers continue to be ranked in the top three, checking in at number three yet again this week, finishing the regular season with a 17-3 record and co-Big Seven League champs with Sabetha.

Class 3A:

Nemaha Valley Raiders boys and girls both remained ranked in the final KBCA polls of the season with the Lady Raiders moving up one spot in the poll to number eight this week. Lady Raiders finished off the regular season with a 16-4 record and pushed the number one team in 2A, Jefferson County North to the wire in the final regular season game. Lady Raiders get postseason action underway with a matchup against Riverside on Tuesday night in Seneca.

The Raider boys continue to check in at number six in the polls after wrapping the regular season with a win over JCN the Raiders opened postseason play with a tough win over Marysville in the first round of sub-state to keep their season alive and move to 19-2 on the season.

Sabetha Bluejay boys are the other area team in the 3A rankings as they continue to fly high over opponents remaining unbeaten on the season at 21-0 after dispatching ACCHS in the opening round of the sub-state action. Bluejays with their unblemished record won the Big Seven regular season title this year.

Class 2A:

The Lady Chargers of Jefferson County North continue to highlight the rankings for the area teams in the 2A level as they wrapped up the regular season with a perfect 20-0 record, earning their toughest win of the season over 3A Nemaha Valley in the regular season finale last Friday. Lady Charger remain ranked number one in the polls headed into postseason play and host Onaga on Tuesday night in sub-state.

Also, Washington County Lady Tigers continue to remain ranked in the polls as they have all season checking in at number five this week up one spot after wrapping up the season with 17-2 record, winning their final four games of the regular season. Tigers start postseason action at home against Wakefield on Tuesday in the Solomon sub-state bracket.

On the boy’s side, Valley Falls continues to be ranked in the polls but for the second straight week fell down one spot to number four this week. Dragons finished the regular season unbeaten in NEKL play and won the league title and have not loss since December 13th, their lone loss on the year as they are 19-1. Valley Falls gets postseason underway on Tuesday against Immaculata at home.

Class 1A-Division I:

Five Twin Valley League teams continue to be ranked in the 1A-DI polls by KBCA, as Valley Heights and Linn girls remained steadfast in their rankings this week at number two and seven, respectively. Valley Heights wrapped up the regular season 19-1 and won the TVL regular season title along with the tournament title in during the season and await the winner of Hanover vs. Doniphan West in sub-state action. While, Linn wrapped up the season with a 14-5 record and earned the two seed in sub-state and will play the winner of Centralia vs. Frankfort in the semifinals.

On the boys side, Hanover, Valley Heights and Centralia all remain ranked in the polls but had some separation in the polls this week. Hanover moved up one spot to number two after wrapping up the season 18-3 on the year, earning them the number two seed in sub-state and they will play Centralia in the semifinals after the Panthers topped Frankfort in the first round of sub-state to stay alive. Panthers fell one spot this week in the rankings to number six, but are 16-6 on the season and still alive in postseason play. For Valley Heights they remained ranked number four in the polls and finished up the regular season 18-2 and won the regular season TVL title with a win over Axtell in the regular season finale.

Class 1A-Division II:

B&B Falcons and Axtell Eagles continue to highlight the 1A-DII polls for the area teams as both the boys and girls Falcons teams remain ranked and the Eagle boys’ team, too.

The Lady Falcons continue to sit atop the perch of the rankings at number one as they wrapped up the regular season with an 18-3 record, winning eight of their final nine games of the regular season. Falcons earned the first round bye and will play the winner of St. Xavier vs. Blue Valley-Randolph later this week in the sub-state semifinals.

Falcon’s boys wrapped up the season going 7-2 after the TVL tournament and sit at number six in the final rankings down one spot this week. Like their counterparts the girls they await their semifinal sub-state opponent for later this week as they will play the winner of St. Xavier vs. Wetmore.

The Axtell Eagle boys finished the regular season with a 12-9 record and head into postseason play ranked number seven in the latest poll, moving down one spot from the previous week. Axtell will play Blue Valley-Randolph in the sub-state semifinals later this week.
