The Big Seven champions had no problems to open postseason play as Sabetha controlled the game early. A 7-0 run started the game and Sabetha extended the lead out to 15 at the end of the first quarter, up 16-1. The Lady Bluejays continued to dominate and waltzed their way to a 53-14 victory over Maur Hill Mount Academy.
Eleven different players recorded a bucket for the Lady Bluejays with senior Brianna Gruber leading the way with nine points. Sophomore Taryn Schuette scored seven points and sophomores Kalli Broxterman and Mariah Huneke and senior Ellie Montgomery added six each.
Maur Hill Mount Academy couldn’t find its stride on the offensive end as the Lady Ravens only made three field goals. Sophomore Avery Lewman paced the Lady Ravens with five points to earn the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game. Sophomore Mary Colwell scored three points off the bench for MH-MA.
With the victory, Sabetha goes to 16-5 on the season and takes on county rival Nemaha Valley on Friday at 7:30 in Horton. Maur Hill Mount Academy finishes the season with three more wins than last year with a 9-11 record.
