Friday night, four teams that all had at least 16 wins this season met in the semifinals of 3A girls Sub-State in Horton.  Marysville and Nemaha Valley prevailed and will meet for the second time this season at 6:00 PM on Saturday night with a trip on the line to 3A State Hoops in Hutchinson.  NV won the first meeting on January 31st by a 49-35 score, but Marysville did not have third leading scorer, guard, Rachel Heiman in that game.

Marysville 48, Horton 32
The only two three-pointers in the game fell for Marysville to give the #3 seed a 15-8 advantage after one quarter.  The Lady Bulldogs led 26-20 at halftime, but held Horton to only 4 points in the third quarter and pulled away for the win.  Abi Degenhardt had 15 points while Tristan Wicks and Rachel Heiman  each added 8 and Ally Kort had 7 with Marysville dominating the offensive glass and getting multiple second and third chance opportunities on offense, improving to 17-5 on the season.  Horton was led by Mariah Hisle and Sarah Coversup with 10 points each while Loagan Rodvelt finished with 8 as Horton ended their girls basketball season with a fine record of 16-6.

Nemaha Valley 52, Sabetha 44
Take away a dreadful first quarter and Sabetha outscored NV 42-41.  Yet, the first quarter counts, and Nemaha Valley took advantage of 9 early Bluejays turnovers and cold-shooting to jump to an 11-2 advantage and hold on for their second straight win against their arch rival.  Nemaha Valley led 21-11 at halftime and Sabetha never got any closer than 48-42 in the fourth quarter.  Sabetha was forced to foul and try to get back in the contest as NV got 37 free-throws and made 21, including 13 in the fourth quarter to keep a comfortable lead.  Sabetha ended up with 19 total turnovers and got 15 points from Alexis McAfee in the final two quarters after she was held scoreless in the opening half.  The Lady Jays end their sixth straight season with at least 14 victories and wrap-up the campaign 16-6 with a Big 7 League championship trophy.  The Lady Raiders improved to 18-4 with all but one of thier wins by 8 points or more and got 16 points from Jaci Swart in the victory.  Rachel Baumgartner added 10 and Madison Koch 9, while Michaela Stallbaumer and Mariah Rottinghaus each delivered 7 in the win.  NV has won 14 of their last 15 games heading into Saturday nights Sub-State Championship against Marysville.
