Valley Falls 70, Jackson Heights 52

For the first time since 2001, the Valley Falls Dragon boys are heading back to the big dance.  The Dragons defended their home court and beat Jackson Heights for a third time this season to win their 2A Sub State on Saturday night.  The first two games were decided by a total of just four points, but Valley Falls built a 10 point margin going into the final period and made 19 free throws to stretch the lead till the final whistle.  Luke Burns scored 19 points to pace the Dragons while fellow seniors, Tyler Weishaar added 14 and Ben Gantz 11 in the title game.

Jackson Heights got 13 points from Cameron Thomas in defeat, while three other seniors scored 8 each: Kyle Ahlgren, Cole Olberding, Preston Richter.  The Cobras finish the season 18-5, with the trio of losses to the Dragons, and 52 points was the second lowest performance of the season on Saturday night.

Valley Falls (22-1) has won 19 straight games since their only setback of the season to Wellsville (72-66) and surpassed 68 points for the 10th time this year.  This will be the 13th state tournament appearance for the Dragon boys, they took second in their last trip in 2001.
