Hays has been one familiar place for the Lady Falcons of B&B with trips for volleyball and basketball state competitions and for the second straight year in basketball the Lady Falcons are flying to Hays to compete at the 1A-Division II State tournament after topping Axtell in a thrilling 40-38 win with a buzzer beating shot from Ashley Schmitz to win.

Game started with both teams trading blows back and forth but the B&B Falcons pushed ahead 13-8 at the end of the first quarter then got nine points from Laura Sudbeck in the second quarter to push ahead 28-15 at the half.

Axtell wasn’t discouraged as Courtney Heinen and Kiersten Talbot combined for 11 points in the third quarter helping the Eagles creep back into the game with a 15-6 quarter, cutting the B&B lead to four points after three quarters. Down the stretch both teams made plays and Axtell tied the game late and B&B had the possession for the last shot of the game. Falcons got the ball to the near side block and at the buzzer, Ashley Schmitz banked in the layup to give B&B the 40-38 win.

The loss ended Axtell’s season with a 15-9 record as they were led by Talbot who scored 13 points on the night, while Megan Buessing chipped 12 points.

For B&B the Falcons on their way back to Hays for the second time this year after winning their third straight volleyball title earlier this year. The Lady Falcons improved to 21-3 with the win and was led by Laura Sudbeck who scored 14 points. Katie Huerter chipped in 10 points and Cassidy Hulsing nine in the win for the Falcons.

In their final year of existence as a high school the B&B Falcon girls will continue the great Falcon athletic year competing for a 1A-DII State basketball title with the boys also in Hays, too.
