Frontenac 38, Holton 35
It was state semifinal action on Friday and at Class 4A Division 2 in Park City, the HOlton girls could not pull out another upset victory against #2 seed Frontenac. In a back and forth game that neither team lead by more than 8 points, Frontenac sank four free throws in the final :23 second to rally for the win.
Holton took a 35-34 advantage on 8 straight points by senior Kyrstie Miller with 1:50 to play, but the Lady Cats missed their last couple shots and did not make a free throw in the second half before falling to 16-8 on the season. Holton led by 5 points a few times in the first half but trailed 17-15 at the break. After a 6-0 start to the third quarter by the Raiders, Hayley Thompson hit a couple bit baskets for Holton to cap a 10-0 run and take a 25-24 lead into the final quarter. Thompson finished with 6 points while Miller paced Holton with 18.
The Wildcats were 0-11 from beyond the arc and got out rebounded 31-19 in just their second loss in the last 14 games. Frontenac, who has now won 16 straight, moved into the championship game against Santa Fe Trail, who was a 46-31 winner on Friday against Burlington. Bailey Flora had 15 points and Haley Wilson 12 including a trio of treys for the Raiders.
