Looking for an unbeaten season and playing in the 2A State title game for the third straight year the Jefferson County North lady Chargers took to action in the tournament in Manhattan and came out as runner-up for the second straight year at State, falling 47-45 to Central Plains in the State title game.

The State tournament started off with the Chargers coming into the tournament at 23-0 and geared up with a tough first round draw against Hillsboro who beat JCN in the 2A volleyball State championship. This time the Chargers got some revenge ending Hillsboro’s season behind a 53-50 grind it out win in the opening round. Chargers found themselves down 27-22 at the half, used a 16-9 fourth quarter to battle back and earn the three-point win. Senior, Jacee Kramer paced the lady Chargers with 22 points, while Jamie Navinskey scored 15 points and Mallory Kramer added 10 points.

In the semifinals JCN had a show down with a Washington County team from the Twin Valley League and the Chargers ran out to a quick 16-8 lead after the first quarter and added to that with a 21-11 second quarter, ultimately topping Washington County 59-42. Jacee continued to lead the Chargers posting 22 points again, while Heather Polson scored 16 points and Navinskey chipped in 14 points.

Those wins setup the Chargers with another opportunity for a State title for the third straight year, winning it all back in 2011 and finishing runner-up last year. This year they took on another unbeaten team in Central Plains and it was a battle throughout the game. The Chargers led 29-28 at the half and by that one-point margin after the third quarter too, but Central Plains put together a 13-10 fourth quarter to take the win 47-45. Despite out rebounding Central Plains 40-20 and Jacee Kramer scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds, the Chargers suffered their first loss of the season.

JCN wrapped up another great season finishing as State runner-up in 2A for the second straight year posting a record of 25-1, while winning the first ever Northeast Kansas League this year also, enjoying another banner year in school history with their fourth consecutive state tourney appearance overall.
