Soaring out on top was something many want to do but not many can but the B&B lady Falcons were able to accomplish that in the final year of the school capping off their great season in the best way with the schools third girls basketball State title, capturing the 1A-DII title with a 59-40 win over Golden Plains.

When the game started everyone saw that the Falcons were ready to go as B&B clamped down on defense and rode a strong defensive performance to the win, while shots finally started to fall in the State tournament for the ladies. Falcons worked out to a 28-12 lead at the half and the defense locked down again in third quarter posting a 20-8 frame to lead 48-20 after three quarters and cruise to the 59-40 win.

After shooting just 36.96% against Attica in the first round 51-35 win and 37.2% against Dighton in the 40-37 semifinal win, the Falcons shot 51.2% in the Championship (21-41) led by the guard duo of Katie Huerter and Ashley Kramer in the backcourt. Huerter paced the team with 19 points on 6-8 from the floor and 7-7 from the free throw line, while Kramer scored 17 points, with four rebounds, five assists and four steals. The dynamic performance by the B&B backcourt earned Huerter and Kramer Community National Bank “Player to Bank On” honors on KMZA. Laura Sudbeck added 12 points and 8 rebounds for the Falcons in the win.

To get to the State title game the Falcons tamed the Attica Bulldogs in the first round in the one seed versus eight seed matchup, winning 51-35. Laura Sudbeck paced the Falcons with a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Huerter and Cassidy Hulsing each scored 12 points and Nicole Sudbeck added seven points and six rebounds. In the semifinals the Falcons overcame a 22-16 halftime deficit and used a 12-6 third quarter and strong defensive performance to earn the win as Laura posted 15 points and seven rebounds.

For the third time and final time in school history the B&B lady Falcons captured a basketball State title winning the 1A-DII State tournament capping off a 24-3 season with the State title. B&B girls with their State title and the State titles by the football and volleyball and third place by the boys at State, gave the Falcons a feat that has not been topped by any school in Kansas history in those four sports in a single year. Falcons added to the historic athletic history of the B&B school and that will be forever remembered.
