JCN girls and Oskaloosa boys grab first place finishes at Oskaloosa track and field invitational

The Jefferson County North Lady Chargers had no problems kicking off the season while the Oskaloosa boys bounced back after a third place finish last week at the Riverside Invitational. In girls competition, JCN recorded 196 points for first place, 112 more than the second-place Valley Falls at 84. Jackson Heights finished with 81 points, Oskaloosa had 56 and McLouth recorded 52.
 
It was much closer on the boys side. Oskaloosa edged McLouth by 23 points to finish with 127. Jackson Heights was close behind with 98 points for third, Valley Falls had 96 points to take fourth and JCN scored 81 points for fifth.
 
Jefferson County North girls had six first place showings on the day. The 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams led the way with times of 4:40 and 11:49. Amanda Wistuba had a great day in high jump with a leap of 4’8” and Lauryn Baker jumped 31’8” to take first in the triple jump. Jacee Kramer took first in javelin and shot put with throws of 92’9” and 32’8.5.”
 
Valley Falls recorded three first place finishes. The 4x100 meter relay team finished with a time of 55 seconds. Emily Nottingham paced the Lady Dragons with first-place showings in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The times were 13.35 and 28.13.
 
Anna Moore led McLouth with two top performances. Moore won the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles by running 17.31 and 51.74. Kayla Steffey took first in the 400 meter dash with a run of 1:06.
 
For other schools, Kaitlynn Little of Jackson Heights won both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs with times of 6:11 and 13:39 and Oskaloosa’s Maddy Miller grabbed gold in discus by throwing 103’9.”
 
On the boys side, Oskaloosa and Jackson Heights each had five top performances. Oskaloosa’s Justin Sharp recorded two of the Bears’ five first place finishes in high jump (6’0”) and triple jump (39’11”). John Malone won by two seconds in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:30. Jordan Butler took the 3200 meter run (11:42) and Dillon Grother won the 110 meter hurdles (18.26).
 
Jackson Heights took two of the three relay events, winning the 4x100 and 4x800. Adam Amon threw the farthest in discus (112’1”), Kyle Alhgren won in shot put (38’0”) and Seth Holliday notched a first-place performance in the 800 meter run (2:15).
 
The most decorated athlete of the day belonged to McLouth. Drew Cerny won in the 100 meter dash (11.46), 200 meter dash (23.16) and the 400 meter dash (53.67). Teammate Jack Arnett also finished first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.56.

Valley Falls and Jefferson County North took first in the other three events. The 4x400 relay team finished first for the Dragons and Max Badgett won in long jump (19’11”). JCN’s Casey Willyard took the gold in javelin with a throw of 132’10.”
