Sabetha Girls & Royal Valley Boys Claim First at Nemaha Valley Big Seven Track Quad

Five Big Seven teams meet up in Seneca to compete against each other in track and field competition on Tuesday as Nemaha Valley hosted Sabetha, Riverside, Royal Valley and Jeff West.

At the end of the day it was the Sabetha girls and Royal Valley boys claiming the teams titles in the competition.

In the girls competition Sabetha amassed 166 points to claim first, followed by Nemaha Valley in second (125) and Royal Valley took third (124). Riverside (71) and Jeff West (38) finished fourth and fifth in the team’s standings on the day.

On the boys side it was Royal Valley totaling the high number finishing with 190 points to claim first place, as Riverside took home second (129) and Sabetha finished third (85). Nemaha Valley (76) and Jeff West (76) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Leading the way for the lady Bluejays of Sabetha on the day was plenty of first place performances as the Bluejays won eight events. Sabetha did most of their damage on the track including taking two of the three relays races winning the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays with times of 4:32.00 and 11:15.00, respectively. The Bluejays also took home gold in the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs with four different individuals winning each event. Miranda Huettner posted a time of 1:07.50 to take home the 400 meter run title, while Alexis McAfee raced to the win in the 800 meter run behind a time of 2:35.00. Brianna Gruber snatched the gold in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:14.84 just three tenths of a second better than second place, while Taryn Schuette took home first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:47.62. Remaining two first place finishes for the lady Bluejays came in the field by Megan Garrett and Heidi Heiniger. Garrett claimed the high jump title with a leap of 5'02, while Heiniger tossed her way to the win in the javelin with a toss of 129'09.

Nemaha Valley girls finished second on the day and had five first place finishes and they came between two different girls as Rachel Baumgartner won three events and Michaela Stallbaumer won two events. Sophomore, Baumgartner continued her strong start to the track season winning the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and the pole vault, too. Rachel posted times of 16.99 and 48.78 to grab the hurdle titles and vaulted to the win in the pole vault with a vault of 8'06. While, Stallbaumer tossed her way to wins in both the discus and shot put with tosses of 99'10 and 35'09, respectively.

Royal Valley lady Panthers took home third place as a team and Elizabeth Blevins led them on the day taking home three first place finishes; as she won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, plus the triple jump. Elizabeth posted times of 13.00 and 27.08 to claim the 100 and 200 meter dash titles and leapt to the win in the triple jump behind a leap of 32'11.75.

Riverside lady Cyclones had a pair of frist place showings on the day as the Cyclones 4x100 meter relay raced their way to the win with a time of 54.30 and Jaden Cox won the long jump, behind a leap of 14'09.50.

On the boys side it was Royal Valley earned first place as a team behind six individual first place performances on the day with Chris Chapman spear heading the performance. Chapman claimed gold in the high jump and the pole vault, as he posted a leap of 5'10 to win the high jump and a vault of 12'06 to win the pole vault. Skyler Link and Wemiko Lewis each won a field event too, as Link won the long jump (19'00.75) and Lewis claimed the discus title (127'10). Both Austin Hodison and Bryce Golightley each claimed a first place showing on the track winning the 400 and 1600 meter runs, respectively with times of 53.55 and 4:50.21.

Riverside Cyclones continued their strong start to the season taking home second in the quad competition and had five first place finishes with Andrae McGaughy leading the charge. McGaughy made it a triple gold day winning the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and the triple jump title, too. Andrae posted times of 16.17 and 41.84 to claim the 110 and 300 hurdle titles and won the triple jump with a leap of 40'11.50. Riverside also claimed the 4x400 meter relay title (3:39.49) and Cody Walker won the javelin (161'06).

Sabetha Bluejays claimed a pair of first place showings as Keegan Cox won the 3200 meter run (11:00.83) and the Bluejays won the 4x800 meter relay, too (9:08.26).

While, Jeff West claimed three first place showings on the day as Drew Slimmer won the 100 meter dash (11.37), Matt Coates took gold in the 200 meter dash (23.92) and the Tigers 4x100 meter relay team won, too (45.49).
