Hiawatha Boys & Girls Claim Holton Big Seven Track Quad Titles

Holton played host to five other Big Seven League teams for a League track quad on Tuesday and the Hiawatha Red Hawks claimed both the boys and girls team titles on the day. ACCHS, Perry Lecompton and Santa Fe Trail competed alongside the host Holton and Hiawatha.

In the girls competition it was Hiawatha finishing as the only team with over 100 points as they totaled 134 to claim first place. ACCHS came in second place finishing with 78 points, while Holton took home third (66), Perry Lecompton finished fourth (48) and Santa Fe Trail placed fifth (15).

Boy's competition was a little closer at that top but with 124 points Hiawatha claimed first place over Holton who took second place with 118 points. Perry Lecompton took home third place (57), Santa Fe Trail placed fourth (51) and ACCHS finished fifth place (4).

The Hiawatha girls hauled in multiple individual first place performances to push them to the team title as the Red Hawks won nine events on the day. Seven of the nine first place finishes came on the track for the girls. Jordan Puvogel claimed both the 400 and 1600 meter run titles with times of 1:02.68 and 5:31.93, while also a part of the Red Hawks relay teams that won both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays with times of 4:24.87 and 10:18.20. Puvogel was joined by Emily Bauer, Molly Kettler and Brianna Schmitz on the 4x400 team and Kailey Davis, Courtney Brockhoff and Kettler on the 4x800 team. Schmitz also claimed two individual gold's herself winning the 200 meter dash (27.06) and high jump (5'01). Two more first place performances were earned for Hiawatha and they both came by Emily Gartner in the field events as she tossed her way to wins in the shot put (37'10) and discus (122'06).

For the ACCHS Tigers they were led by three first place finishes on the day in the 100 meter dash, 800 meter run, and 4x100 meter relay. In the 100 meter dash, Katie Sullivan claimed the gold with a time of 13.68, while Madison Bissell won the 800 meter run behind a time of 2:35.31. The lady Tigers 4x100 meter relay team of Kaite Sullivan, Lillie Holtgrave, Courtney Coder and Hannah Hundley took first place, also with a time of 54.44.

The Holton Wildcats were led on the day by a pair of first place finishes as Ashley Cook won the long jump with a leap of 14'08 and Courtney Boswell won the 100 meter hurdles behind a time of 18.12.

Perry Lecompton also had a pair of first place showings in the girl’s competition on the day as Abbi Folks won the triple jump (32'01.50) and Sidney Davis won the 300 meter hurdles (55.43).

Hiawatha again led the action on the boy’s side of competition as the Red Hawks claimed eight first place performances on the day on their way to the team title at the meet. Conner Bigham, Brandt Houk and Quentin Overdick led the charge for Hiawatha as they each won a pair of events. Bigham claimed first in the 800 meter run (2:06.21) and leapt to the win in the high jump (6'03), while Houk raced his way to wins in the 1600 (5:05.37) and 3200 meter runs (11:08.28). Overdick tossed his way to wins in both the discus and javelin throws with tosses of 144'00 and 145'04; he won the discus by nearly 20 feet. Brendan Steele and Bryce Oldridge each added gold in the field events winning the long jump (19'04) and the shot put (43'08), respectively.

For the Holton Wildcats who claimed second place as team they grabbed six first place finishes in events on the day. Brenden Hampton led the Wildcats on the day taking first in the 200 meter dash (23.84) and the 110 meter hurdles (16.01). Drake Ewing and Josh Wilhelm each won a race, too as Ewing sprinted to the win in the 100 meter dash (11.09) and Wilhelm won the 300 meter hurdles (46.38). Wildcats relay team claimed the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay titles with times of 45.81 and 3:39.74. The 4x400 team consisted of Dalton Colhouer, Indee Allen, Will Wright and Dakota Colhouer, while Wright ran with Hampton, Ewing and Mason Barta on the 4x100 team.

The Kaws of Perry Lecompton finished third as a team but had only one first place finish as Cole Kellum won the 400 meter run (53.19). While, Santa Fe Trail also only had one first place finisher on the day in the boys competition as Daniel Courtwright claimed the triple jump title (39'06.75).
